Choosing a TEFL course provider is confusing: every site claims to be accredited, every course seems to be permanently on sale, and the differences only become clear once you put providers side by side. So that is exactly what this page does. Below, we compare six of the most searched-for online TEFL course providers, ourselves included, on price, accreditation, tutor support, job assistance, independent review scores and refund policies. Every figure was checked directly against each provider’s own public website and Trustpilot listing, and we tell you the exact date we checked.

The table below is the heart of this guide. It shows each provider’s flagship course, the price displayed on its website when we checked, its stated accreditation, its Trustpilot rating, and its refund policy, all in one place.

Prices are each provider’s own displayed price (sale price where a sale was shown) in the currency and region their site presented: EUR (Ireland) for the TEFL Institute, GBP (UK) for The TEFL Academy and TEFL Org, USD for i-to-i, ITTT and myTEFL. Promotional prices on TEFL sites rotate frequently, so treat every price as a snapshot, not a fixed fee.

How much does a TEFL course cost?

A reputable online TEFL certification costs between roughly £150 and £300 (or the equivalent in euros or dollars) at the time of checking, once sale prices were applied. Advertised “regular” prices are far higher, from £379 to €635 among the providers compared here, but near-permanent promotions mean almost nobody pays them. The more useful comparison is what you get for the sale price: course hours, qualification level, tutor access and job support.

Two things matter more than the headline number. First, the qualification level: a 120-hour certificate (equivalent to Level 3) is the entry standard, while a Level 5 diploma, such as our Ultimate TEFL Bundle, carries more weight with employers and covers more teaching hours. Second, the extras that are easy to overlook: extension fees after your access period ends, whether tutor feedback is included, and whether job support continues after graduation.

Which TEFL providers are accredited or regulated?

Every provider in this comparison claims accreditation, but the claims are not equivalent. The strongest form is a qualification regulated by a government body: Ofqual in the UK regulates Level 5 TEFL diplomas awarded through approved awarding organisations such as Highfield and Qualifi. DEAC approval (through its Approved Quality Curriculum programme) is a recognised American benchmark. Beyond that sit independent accreditors such as the British Accreditation Council, ODLQC and ACDL.

On the pages we checked, The TEFL Institute and TEFL Org named the broadest range of accrediting and regulating bodies. The TEFL Academy and i-to-i both cite Ofqual regulation and DEAC approval. ITTT and myTEFL describe their courses as accredited but list their accreditors far less specifically on their sales pages, making independent verification harder. If accreditation matters to your visa or employer, always ask a provider exactly which body regulates the qualification, not just the company.

Tutor support and job assistance compared

Tutor support is near-universal at this end of the market, so the real differentiators are live contact time and what happens after you qualify. Look for scheduled live workshops rather than email-only feedback, and for job support that continues throughout your teaching career rather than a one-off CV template.

TEFL provider reviews: what Trustpilot shows

Independent review scores among these six providers ranged from 4.4 to 4.9 out of 5 at the time of checking. The TEFL Academy held the highest score (4.9 from 2,248 reviews), while i-to-i had the largest review volume (3,232 reviews) at the lowest confirmed score (4.4). Our own Trustpilot profile stood at 4.8 from 481 reviews; you can read our reviews on Trustpilot. MyTEFL’s Trustpilot page could not be verified when we checked, so we report no score rather than an unconfirmed one.

When you read TEFL reviews, weigh the score together with volume and recency, and look at how a company answers its critical reviews. A 4.7 with hundreds of detailed recent reviews can tell you more than a perfect score built on a handful.

Refund policies compared

Refund terms vary more than any other feature in this comparison. ITTT offers the most unconditional promise: a full refund within 3 days of payment, no questions asked, plus a price-match guarantee. We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee. The TEFL Academy relies on the standard 14-day statutory withdrawal right set out in its terms and conditions. i-to-i’s “guaranteed pass” promise refunds you only if you fail despite following all tutor feedback. TEFL Org did not prominently state a guarantee on the pages we checked, and myTEFL’s terms state that online course fees are not refundable once you have enrolled. Read the refund clause before you pay, not after.

How to choose a TEFL provider

• Check who regulates the qualification, not just the brand. Ask for the awarding body by name (for example, Highfield, Qualifi or TQUK for Ofqual-regulated Level 5 diplomas).
• Compare like with like. A £150 course for 120 hours at Level 3 and a €255 diploma for 180 hours at Level 5 are different products, not different prices for the same thing.
• Ignore the “was” price. Judge value based on what you actually pay and what is included at that price.
• Confirm what tutor support means in practice. Email-only feedback and live workshops are very different experiences.
• Read the refund and extension terms before enrolling. Access periods, extension fees and refund windows differ sharply between providers.
• Verify reviews independently. Go to Trustpilot directly rather than trusting badges on a sales page.
