Editorial charter
The standard every page on this site is held to
Named writers. Official sources. A date on every figure. And when we get something wrong, we correct it in place and record it publicly — the ledger is further down this page.
Every year, thousands of people use teflinstitute.com to decide whether to train as an English teacher, which qualification to choose, and where in the world to go. Those are serious decisions, so this page sets out the standards we hold ourselves to when we publish anything: who writes it, who checks it, and what you can expect from us when we get something wrong.
The Writers Behind Our Guides
Articles on teflinstitute.com carry real bylines, and the named author wrote or substantially shaped the piece.
Academic Review by Qualified Assessors
Content that describes teaching methodology, qualifications or course content is checked by the same academic team that assesses our students’ coursework.
How a Guide Earns Publication
Nothing goes live on teflinstitute.com just because it might rank well. Each guide moves through five stages.
- CommissionWe define the exact reader question the guide must answer and check our library so we improve existing content rather than duplicate it.
- SourceResearch starts with primary sources: government immigration portals, embassies, education ministries, awarding bodies and named employer requirements. Salary figures are verified against at least two independent sources.
- DraftThe named writer produces the guide, with data tables indicating when the figures were gathered and links to the sources of the claims.
- AssessA qualified reviewer from the academic or partnerships team checks factual claims, qualification descriptions and anything that could affect a reader’s legal or financial position.
- MaintainFast moving topics such as visas, salaries and hiring rules are scheduled for re-review. When a guide changes meaningfully, we update its “last updated” date. We never change dates without changing content. This charter itself is re-reviewed every six months, and the status strip at the top of this page carries the date of the last review.
Standards We Hold Ourselves To
Recent Corrections and Updates
A standards page should show its work, not just describe it. These are the most recent dated changes across our published guides and desks, newest first.
| Date | Page | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| 30 Sep 2026 | The Hire Wire, Edition 5 | Published. A dated correction note was added under the byline after four points were rechecked at source. |
| 30 Sep 2026 | The Salary Index | TAPIF timing corrected here and on the hub, Deadline Alerts and careers pages: no 2027/28 opening date is published, so early November is a pattern, not a promise. |
| 30 Sep 2026 | The Hire Wire, Edition 2 | Dated note added giving the confirmed JET 2027 application dates. The original wording is left as sent. |
| 30 Sep 2026 | Teach English in Japan Without a Degree | JET salary euro figures updated from a month-old exchange rate to the ECB reference rate of 29 September 2026. |
| 23 Sep 2026 | The Hire Wire, Editions 3 and 4 | JET 2027 opened on 21 September, so Edition 4’s correction of Edition 3 was withdrawn. Edition 3 was right, and both pages now say so. |

| 23 Sep 2026 | The Salary Index | EPIK starting pay corrected to 2.2 million KRW, since 2.35 million is the top of Level 2, not the floor. Cambly changed from “paused” to “limiting new tutors”, per Cambly’s own page. |
| 17 Sep 2026 | The Hire Wire, Edition 4 | Published, correcting the EPIK pay floor to 2.2 million KRW. |
| 9 Sep 2026 | The Salary Index | EPIK pay range corrected to 2.35 to 2.8 million KRW after the official salary page confirmed Level 3 applicants are not being hired. Taiwan TFETP figures withdrawn because the official pages could not be read at source. (EPIK floor since revised, see 23 Sep 2026.) |
| 9 Sep 2026 | The Hire Wire hub | JET application window corrected to September to November 2026, with the programme’s own note that dates are not yet final. EPIK Spring 2027 restored to the board after the official notice was read at source. |
| 1 Sep 2026 | The Hire Wire, Edition 3 | Published, carrying two corrections and a recount of the reader poll after votes from automated scanners were identified and removed. |
| 18 Aug 2026 | The Salary Index | JET and EPIK euro conversions refreshed using the ECB reference rates published 17 August 2026; application timing rechecked against the official programme pages. |
| 7 Aug 2026 | The Paperwork Desk | Published. Every fee and processing time carries the date it was checked at the official source. |
| 7 Aug 2026 | Editorial Charter | This page redesigned. Wording about review platforms corrected to match our own naming rules. |
This ledger is refreshed with each fortnightly edition of The Hire Wire. Corrections are printed in place on the page they belong to, never quietly deleted.
