What will I learn?
After completing the 180 Hour Ofqual Level 5 Diploma Course from the TEFL Institute, you can access the most competitive TEFL jobs worldwide. You will be able to teach adults and children online or abroad and work in native English-speaking countries.
The difference between a standard TEFL course and a level 5 qualification, is that this level 5 qualification generally gives enhanced opportunities for higher-paid teaching roles in more competitive schools and countries. Because the Level 5 TEFL Diploma is considered the same standard as the CELTA & Trinity Cert TESOL qualification, this TEFL course is the most recognized and respected internationally.
Those with a Level 5 TEFL diploma looking to teach English abroad will be among the most in-demand candidates for any available TEFL jobs. On average, and depending on the country, you could expect to earn between €1,500-€3,000 a month in respected schools looking for higher qualified teachers.
The 180 Hour level 5 TEFL Diploma is an internationally recognized lifetime qualification issued by The TEFL Institute. As a globally recognized TEFL provider, our academic team are responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive online learning experience with extensive course material.
Within the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), Level 5 generally corresponds to post-secondary education, which may include both academic and vocational pathways. Similarly, in other countries outside of Europe such as the UK, Australia or Canada, a Level 5 qualification may align with a diploma or an associate degree.
The TEFL Institute has a reputation in the TEFL industry for its high caliber of training and for producing TEFL teachers of the highest standard. The only requirement to complete our 180-Hour Level 5 Diploma TEFL course is a good command of the English language (minimum level c1) and a working device.

The TEFL Institute is a verified UK TEFL provider, meaning that you can study any one of our courses with the knowledge that it will be fit for purpose when you need to use it overseas for your new teaching role. The Vital Consular verification scheme ensures that the members are all recognized by the UK Government. Frequently Asked Questions
What is TEFL?
TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It is primarily teaching non-native English speakers without the use of translation. This means you won’t need to know their first language. TEFL teachers will need the knowledge and know-how of the methodologies to teach in this way. This is why teachers will first need to complete a TEFL course and gain the qualification. TEFL is widely used to either teach English online in one-to-one or small group scenarios or to teach English abroad and is sometimes even used as an easier way to travel.
Who can do a TEFL course?
First and foremost, aspiring TEFL teachers must be outgoing and confident and not afraid to make themselves look a little silly, especially when teaching children. Expression is a considerable part of the methodologies to be able to get your point across. You’ll warm up to this in time, and it all takes practice.
We suggest people be at least 16 with a C1 level of English or higher. If you’re not sure, we have a free English test. We also would recommend people who work on their own initiative as it is an online course, and you will need to be your own motivation.
What can I do with my TEFL certificate?
As a TEFL-qualified teacher, the world is your oyster. Our 120 hour TEFL certificate is fully accredited and internationally recognized, meaning you can teach online or around the globe. If you are looking to teach in your home country at a language center or would like to go to the UAE, we suggest you do our higher-level qualification, our 180 hour level 5 TEFL course, as this is the requirement in such competitive countries .
What does Level 5 mean?
Ofqual regulates a Level 5 TEFL course according to its qualifications framework. Another Level Five teaching qualification is the CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Once qualified with a Level 5 TEFL qualification, you’ll have access to the most competitive jobs worldwide.
Foundation Degree: Equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. It typically involves academic training and focuses on a specific profession or field.
Within the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), Level 5 generally corresponds to post-secondary education, which may include academic and vocational pathways. Similarly, a Level 5 qualification may align with a diploma or an associate degree in other countries like Australia or Canada.
What does regulated mean?
A regulated qualification means that it is officially recognized by the government and sits on the Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications.
What is the difference between the 120 hour TEFL course and the 180 hour level 5 TEFL course?
Both courses are primary TEFL qualifications and allow you to start your ESL career. However, there are a few differences between them, and the right choice will depend on your story and goals.
The 180 hour diploma course is a level 5 qualification and can be compared to a CELTA or TrinityTESOL. This course is harder and longer to complete but worth it, as it opens up so many opportunities. This course should be taken if you’d like to teach in your home country or certain places in Asia.
How are TEFL courses laid out?
The TEFL courses are filled with course content, videos, podcasts, reflective tasks, and tests. They are online courses and can be completed in your own time and from home.
Our 180 hour TEFL course has 11 modules with a test at the end of each module, consisting of both MCQs and open-ended questions. This level 5 course has a 100% pass mark. All of the tests can be taken online and submitted. Our system will correct your multiple choice answers immediately and you’ll be asked to retake the test if not correct. You can retake the test as many times as you need. The open-ended answers are checked by our assessment team, and you will get feedback if your answers need to be changed. You won’t get an unlimited number of times, and there may be an extra to repeat, so be sure to take their feedback into account. Once our assessors pass you, your level 5 government-regulated certificate will be issued. You are given 6 months to complete the course, but extensions are available if needed.
Tell me about the correction/ assessment processes?
All online course tests are corrected instantly, except for our 180 hour Level 5 TEFL course. All accredited courses require an 80% pass rate and retests are free.
The 180 hour level 5 TEFL course contains both multiple-choice and open-ended questions. The multiple choice questions are corrected instantly like normal, but word count is the only factor corrected instantly with the open-ended answers. After every three modules, our expert assessors will correct your answers and give you some tips if an answer is not up to standard. Although the instant corrections are free to redo, you may be charged if your long answers are incorrect for a third time, so please take their advice into account when completing the reassessment process.
