As a guide, you would expect to earn between €1,600-€3,000 a month in respected schools looking for higher qualified teachers depending on the country.

As a fully trained and qualified TEFL teacher, you will teach English online or overseas. To earn a competitive salary and secure employment, TEFL employers expect at least 120-hours of TEFL tuition. You can teach English online or in any classroom worldwide with the 120-hour TEFL course. The Vital Consular:

What is this verification seal, and why is it different to an accreditation? The TEFL Institute is a verified UK TEFL provider, meaning that you can study any one of our courses with the knowledge that it will be fit for purpose when you need to use it overseas for your new teaching role. The Vital Consular verification scheme ensures that the members are all recognised by the UK Government. All certificates they issue can be used for an overseas work permit; not all TEFL providers meet these requirements!

This is extremely important if you’re travelling to China, Vietnam, Taiwan and other destinations where your documents will need to be legalised for your visa. If your certificate doesn’t get past the first stage of legalisation by the UK Government, you’ll likely have to start a new course, costing you extra time and money before you can even get things moving.

Faqs
  • What is TEFL?

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It is primarily teaching non-native speakers English without the use of translation. This means you won’t need to know their first language. TEFL teachers will need the knowledge and know-how of the methodologies to teach in this way. This is why teachers will first need to complete a TEFL course and gain the qualification. TEFL is widely used to either teach English online in one-to-one or small group scenarios or to teach English abroad and sometimes even used as an easier way to travel.

  • Who can do a TEFL course?

First and foremost, an aspiring TEFL teacher must be outgoing and confident, and not afraid to make themselves look a little silly, especially when teaching children. Expression is a huge part of the methodologies to be able to get your point across. You’ll warm up to this in time and it all takes practice.

We suggest people to be at least 16 with a C1 level of English or higher. If you’re not sure, we have a free English test. We also would recommend people who work on their own initiative as it is an online course and you will need to be your own motivation.

  • What can I do with my TEFL certificate?

As a TEFL qualified teacher, the world is your oyster. Our 120 hour TEFL certificate is fully accredited and internationally recognized, meaning you can teach online or around the globe. If you are looking to teach in your home country at a language centre or would like to go to the UAE, we suggest you do our higher-level qualification, our 180-hour level 5 TEFL course, as this is the requirement in such competitive countries.

  • What does Level 5 mean?

Ofqual regulates a Level 5 TEFL course according to their qualifications framework. Another Level five teaching qualification, is the CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Once qualified with a Level 5 TEFL qualification, you’ll have access to the most competitive jobs worldwide.

  • What does regulated mean?

A regulated qualification means that it is officially recognized by the government and sits on the Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications.

  • What is the difference between the 120 hour TEFL course and the 180 hour level 5 TEFL course?

Both courses are primary TEFL qualifications and allow you to start your ESL career. However, there are a few differences between them, and the right choice will depend on your story and goals.
The 180-hour course is a level 5 qualification and can be compared to a CELTA or TrinityTESOL. This course is harder and longer to complete but worth it, as it opens up so many opportunities. This course should be taken if you’d like to teach in your home country or certain places in Asia.

  • How are TEFL courses laid out?

The TEFL courses are filled with course content, videos, podcasts, reflective tasks, and tests. They are online courses and can be completed in your own time and from home.

Our 180 hour TEFL course has 11 modules with a test at the end of each module, consisting of both MCQs and open-ended questions. This level 5 course has a 100% pass mark. All of the tests can be taken online and submitted. Our system will correct your multiple choice answers immediately and you’ll be asked to retake the test if not correct. You can retake the test as many times as you need. The open ended answers are checked by our assessment team and you will get feedback if your answers need to be changed. You won’t get an unlimited number of times and there may be an extra to repeat so be sure to take their feedback into account. Once our assessors pass you, your level 5 government regulated certificate will be issued. You are given 6 months to complete the course, but extensions are available if needed.

  • Tell me about the correction/ assessment processes?

All online course tests are corrected instantly, with the exception of our 180 hour Level 5 TEFL course. All accredited courses require an 80% pass rate and retests are free.

The 180 hour level 5 TEFL course contains both multiple choice and open ended questions. The multiple choice questions are corrected instantly like normal, but word count is the only factor corrected instantly with the open ended answers. After every three modules, our expert assessors will correct your answers and give you some tips if an answer is not up to standard. Although the instant corrections are free to redo, you may be charged if your long answers are incorrect for a third time, so please take their advice into account when completing the reassessment process.

I did the 180 hour course. Response to any questions or difficulties I had was immediate and helpful. Lots of help and support from both the staff and my personal tutor Rachel. Any technical issues that popped up were delt with quickly and didn't hinder progress. Feedback was constructive and the modules were self explanatory and clear. The content was easy to understand and needed little alternative explanation.

Recently completed my 10 hour teaching practice, found it very informative, great working interactively with other international students from diffrent countries in the world. Was a little scared of the zoom classroom but Michelle made the experience very easy. Would highly recommend the teaching practice section as Michelle made it very clear and easy to understand. Cant wait to take on another course with TEFL.

Currently taking the "180 Hour Level 5 TEFL Course", as well as other 30 hour courses. Absolutely love the way the courses are set up as well as the materials used. In addition to the courses mentioned above, I took the "10 Hour Advanced Certificate in TEFL Classroom Methodologies Course" with Michelle Benson. She did an outstanding job at showing and teaching what a good lesson should look like while experiencing it ourselves. She emphasized on the importance of finding our own teaching style. Thank you for a great teaching experience, new knowledge and the possibility to teach English in the future!

Having completed the 120-hour course with this institution has been a very enriching experience. The platform is very interactive, easy to use and very thorough in its content. The most important factor in choosing TEFL.ie for me was the flexibility to work at your own pace, from anywhere. All of the subjects were very relevant and beneficial to me. The part of this course that I like the most was when they included links to all of the example lessons/lesson plans.I’d recommend this provider to anybody looking to become TEFL qualified.

I recently completed the 10-hr virtual class practicum course, offered through the 310-hr Level 5 Gov´t Regulated Tefl course. I am pleased to say that the virtual classroom course provided me with vital teaching practice in only 10 hours! First, the instructor, Kate Popova, is to be congratulated on her ability to teach a programme in an easy-to-follow structure, creating a relaxed, non-threatening environment for us novice teacher students to take advantage of her expertise and put theory into practice. I particularly liked how Kate stressed the importance of instilling elicitation in the classroom regularly to ensure integration between teacher and students as well as student to student integration with engaging activities, including intuitive teaching techniques to help learners become more autonomous in their learning. It was all very helpful. Thanks a bunch Kate!
