WHO CAN DO A TEFL COURSE?

We suggest people be at least 17 with a C1 level of English or higher. If you’re not sure, we have a free English test. If you have no experience in teaching online, a good idea is to get some teaching practice in, as they may ask for “experience” hours, which are unpaid. You can alternatively complete our 10-hour Methodologies course, which has a section focused on teaching English online. Most online companies will ask for your TEFL certificate, teaching practice, accessibility to good WiFi, a laptop or other computer devices, and headphones. Some online companies may ask their teachers also to have a Bachelor’s Degree. This is evident in Chinese online companies, as it is a government regulation (no matter where you live).

Do you ever think about how words or parts of words can be joined together to change the meaning or to make brand-new words? Learn how words enter the English language and how they change over time so that you can share this knowledge with your students.

Module Two: How to Arrange Words into Sentences

Did you know that there are around 171,000 words in the English language? Don’t worry; you’ll only be asked to teach a few hundred of those! In this module, you will learn about building words into sentences and be ready to help students to create their own grammatically correct statements, whether they are simple, compound or complex.

Module Three: Time to Talk Tenses

Were you taught that there were three tenses: Past, Present and Future? Would it surprise you to know that there are, in fact, 12 (or 13, depending on who you ask) tenses in the English language? Spend time getting to grips with this valuable aspect of language teaching skills. Your future-teacher-self (and students) will thank you for it.

Module Four: How to Teach Advanced Grammar

Many entry-level TEFL jobs want you to focus on conversational English teaching. This is a great way to get first-time experience as a teacher, and it usually means less time spent on grammatical theory. But, there will come a time when you want to boost your earning power and be hired to know your present continuous from your present simple tense. And be able to explain it well to students. By the end of this module, you will be confident in your grammar teaching skills, plus have access to a long list of ready-to-roll activities for your grammar classes.

I was completing the 30 hour course. The team could not have been more helpful throughout the process. I really enjoyed the TEFL course and found it both informative and engaging. The modules were well-structured, and I appreciated the multi-modal delivery of content. I learnt how to adapt to different learner levels, this was particularly useful and gave me the confidence to begin teaching English either online or in person. An area for improvement could be the inclusion of more interactive elements, like live teaching practice or peer feedback sessions. These would help to reinforce learning and provide opportunity to apply content. Overall the course has been a great foundation. The customer service team Lisa Flynn were a pleasure to deal with and provided immediate response. Would highly recommend.

I participated in the 10 hour TEFL course as part of my journey to becoming a teacher teaching English as a Foreign language. All of my classmates were lovely and I felt included and a sense of belonging during this class. Michelle was my teacher for the class and she was very helpful and supportive! I really enjoyed learning tips about becoming a better teacher and helping students to understand simple language by using miming and images. I presented a PowerPoint for my class using images and the techniques that Michelle taught us and I felt proud of myself for being the teacher for a few minutes!
