Therefore, mastering the language’s grammar is vital to succeeding in teaching English as a foreign language. This 30 Hour Advanced Grammar Course will make you a grammatical master.
Grammar can change the entire meaning of a sentence. Understanding the use of nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives will help you to be able to teach your students how to read and write better. You might be a native English speaker and are very confident in your grasp of the rules of the language, but are you confident enough to teach it? Do you remember everything you were taught as a student so that you can answer correctly when you are asked a grammatical question?
This 30-hour course will give you the grammar refresher you need, including word and sentence formation and different tenses. It will make you a better English teacher, and you may surprise yourself and learn something.

Advanced Grammar for English Teachers

Module One: How are Words Formed?

Do you ever think about how words or parts of words can be joined together to change the meaning or to make brand-new words? Learn how words enter the English language and how they change over time so that you can share this knowledge with your students.

Module Two: How to Arrange Words into Sentences

Did you know that there are around 171,000 words in the English language? Don’t worry; you’ll only be asked to teach a few hundred of those! In this module, you will learn about building words into sentences and be ready to help students to create their own grammatically correct statements, whether they are simple, compound or complex.

Module Three: Time to Talk Tenses

Were you taught that there were three tenses: Past, Present and Future? Would it surprise you to know that there are, in fact, 12 (or 13, depending on who you ask) tenses in the English language? Spend time getting to grips with this valuable aspect of language teaching skills. Your future-teacher-self (and students) will thank you for it.

Module Four: How to Teach Advanced Grammar

Many entry-level TEFL jobs want you to focus on conversational English teaching. This is a great way to get first-time experience as a teacher, and it usually means less time spent on grammatical theory. But, there will come a time when you want to boost your earning power and be hired to know your present continuous from your present simple tense. And be able to explain it well to students. By the end of this module, you will be confident in your grammar teaching skills, plus have access to a long list of ready-to-roll activities for your grammar classes.

Highfields Qualifications

The TEFL Institute’s Level 5 accrediting body is the  (Highfield Qualifications). This qualification is aimed at those with little or no experience teaching English or those with previous experience seeking a recognised qualification to validate their knowledge. This qualification provides learners with a certificate recognised worldwide and can be used to secure teaching positions, visas and other employment related to English language teaching. For a more general overview of the units, we recommend Highfield Level 5 Certificate in Teaching as a Foreign Language (TEFL). The Vital Consular:

What is this verification seal, and why is it different to an accreditation?   • WHAT IS TEFL?

    TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It is primarily teaching non-native speakers English without the use of translation. This means you won’t need to know their first language. TEFL teachers will need the knowledge and know-how of the methodologies to teach this way. This is why teachers must first complete a TEFL course and gain the qualification. TEFL is widely used to teach English online in one-to-one or small group scenarios or to teach English abroad and is sometimes even used as an easier way to travel.
  • WHO CAN DO A TEFL COURSE?

    First and foremost, aspiring TEFL teachers must be outgoing and confident, and not afraid to make themselves look a little silly, especially when teaching children. Expression is a huge part of the methodologies to get your point across. You’ll warm up to this in time, and it all takes practice.

    We suggest people be at least 17 with a C1 level of English or higher. If you’re not sure, we have a free English test. We also would recommend people who work on their own initiative as it is an online course and you will need to be your own motivation.
  • WHAT DO I NEED TO TEACH ONLINE?

    If you have no experience in teaching online, a good idea is to get some teaching practice in, as they may ask for “experience” hours, which are unpaid. You can alternatively complete our 10-hour Methodologies course, which has a section focused on teaching English online.

    Most online companies will ask for your TEFL certificate, teaching practice, accessibility to good WiFi, a laptop or other computer devices, and headphones. Some online companies may ask their teachers also to have a Bachelor’s Degree. This is evident in Chinese online companies, as it is a government regulation (no matter where you live).
  • HOW ARE THE COURSES LAID OUT?

    Our courses contain content, videos, podcasts, reflective tasks, and tests. They are online courses and can be completed independently and from home.

    Our specialist courses are much shorter than the main TEFL qualifications. They are all completed online and in your own time. All tests are done online and corrected instantly. They have course content and tests throughout the course. They can be completed before or after the main TEFL qualification.
  • ARE THE COURSES ACCREDITED?

    The TEFL Institute is fully accredited by ACDL. Our 180-hour Level OFQUAL regulates 5 TEFL courses.
  • IS THIS COURSE COMPLETELY ONLINE? HOW FLEXIBLE IS THIS COURSE?

    All courses are done online, and no travelling is required for the tests. Except for the 10-hour Virtual training, you can log on anytime. This is to ensure that our TEFL courses can be done during work or other studies. There is a 6-month deadline for the courses, but you can contact us for extensions.

Just finished the 10 hour virtual course with Michelle Benson and I have to say it was amazing. From the start Michelle made us all feel relax and comfortable, She explained exactly what the course would entail and made sure we had fun doing it. I chose to do the 180hr TEFL course to get the most out of it. It was chalk full of useful information, from grammar, to lesson plans to class room management. The layout was clear and the information presented in a well thought out manner. Overall definitely a useful course to do, the scariest thing was to start as it seemed to be so huge and overwhelming but if you do a little bit every day, it'll be over in no time :)

I recently signed up for the Level 5 Diploma and I must say that it’s comprehensive, condensed and well-structured. There are plenty of learning materials and links to external websites, which enhance knowledge of the subject. There is everything you need to complete the quizzes and assessments, with tutor support and help on Discord when you are in difficulty.I did the 10hr Methodologies Course with Michelle Benson, and she was really encouraging. She demonstrated how to conduct a lesson, took us through a foreign language lesson and gave us numerous tips from her own experience. Everyone in the online class got to do 5 minutes teaching practice and she provided feedback after each person’s turn.I would definitely recommend the TEFL courses to anyone looking into teaching English to people of other languages.
