Amazing Talker

This fantastic organisation focuses on one-on-one instruction and provides exceptionally flexible working conditions for its teachers. They have a matching system as well! Teachers post their available days/times for work and their specialities or areas of interest (e.g., adult learners and conversation skills). Students are matched to the appropriate teachers based on their short assessment before signing up. It’s a fantastic opportunity to specialise in different aspects of your classes while keeping your lectures interesting and growing your TEFL abilities!

Requirements: 1 year of classroom or online teaching experience and a TEFL certificate. Suppose you’re already qualified and still need to choose a TEFL Diploma. In that case, we recommend the specialised Teaching English One-to-One and Online course to help raise your teaching profile and increase your student matches (and your compensation!).

The Great Teacher Company

This online job is known for having a great work culture and providing excellent support to new and experienced teachers. They also make your life easier by offering all the instructional resources you’ll need, reducing your prep time! The Great Teacher Company has students from Argentina to China, whose pupils range in age and ability, so you’ll have plenty of options for who and what style of English you teach.

Requirements: No criminal record, computer proficiency, or TEFL certificate are required. We recommend enrolling in a more advanced course, such as our Advanced Diploma, which includes specific Coaching IELTS and Business English modules, so you can teach young and adult students online.

Teaching English Online Mission

Preply

Preply began as a forum for tutors to assist students with their SAT preparation. In recent years, they’ve evolved to offer a variety of lessons to people of all ages in approximately 50 languages! So, even if you’re not a natural English speaker, you can educate pupils in both your original tongue and English – a win-win situation! As a result, your students will be diverse in age and origin. Making it simple for you to be adaptable and work around your current schedule.

Preply does not state any prerequisites on its website, but we recommend obtaining TEFL certification first to stand out from the crowd and feel prepared to teach English!

Eigox

Eigox is a Japanese language corporation that teaches conversation skills to Japanese learners. Because they don’t have their teaching platform, you’ll use Skype for your classes (a throwback!). Teachers have a lot of freedom when they work because the minimum requirement for teaching is only 10 hours per week, lessons are only 25 minutes long, and classes are available to students 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. So all you have to do is choose the hours and dates that work best for you! Another fantastic benefit is that you can gradually raise your hourly rates based on your performance!

Requirements: To be a ‘Native Instructor’ (one of their instructor options), you must be fluent in English. Aside from that, all you need is a TEFL certificate and a PayPal account!

Cambly

Because they have some of the lowest instructor requirements, this is a top-rated online TEFL company for newly trained TEFL teachers. Because Eigox does not have its teaching platform, you will often host your classes using tools such as Skype or Zoom. The good thing is that they give you all the necessary teaching resources and detailed lesson plans, so all you have to do is show up and teach – simple!

You can apply to be a Cambly tutor if you speak English fluently! However, we urge that you first obtain TEFL certification to ensure that your students receive high-quality English instruction!

Learntalk

Learntalk is an online language school established in Hong Kong that specialises in teaching English. You’ll be teaching adults, ideal for people who want to specialise in their TEFL teaching, work with more motivated students, and have more focused topic matter in sessions (for example, Business English or conversational skills). Before beginning education, you will be evaluated on your teaching abilities, and your salary level will correspond to your teaching competence. As a result, make an excellent first impression!

Requirement: A bachelor’s degree (or higher) and a TEFL certificate are required.

Alter

Alter is a rapidly expanding online TEFL employer based in Poland that educates students through Zoom. You’ll have the opportunity to teach kids ranging in age from 7 to young adults and diverse language levels, so sessions should be diversified! You will also have the option to teach small groups and one-on-one, and this variety of programs will help you quickly build your teaching abilities and lesson preparation skills!

Requirements:  Alter requires their teachers to be native English speakers with a BA degree or in their second year of study towards a BA degree. You must also have a TEFL certificate. Teaching experience is preferred but optional.

Online class

italki

Because italki is the world’s largest online language teacher marketplace, potential students will pick between you and other English teachers, so make sure your profile stands out!

Italki usually asks for experience teaching English online, but this is optional, so apply even if you have none. You must, however, have a TEFL qualification!

Check out their application webpage for more info.

NativeCamp

NativeCamp is one of the most significant online tutoring schools in Japan. They’ve even created their language platform for you to teach, so you don’t have to rely on Skype for your sessions! They also provide complete flexibility for teachers and students, with no minimum hours necessary and the ability to work whenever you want. In addition, they offer 24/7 online assistance for teachers. This is ideal if you have a query that needs to be answered immediately!

Requirements: You must be over 18yrs old, and you also need to have a TEFL certificate.

And if you’re looking for some volunteer work to gain experience (and some good karma! ), you may work as a Volunteer Online TEFL teacher with Nevy’s Language.

Nevy’s Language

This non-profit organisation based in Canada provides online language classes for immigrants from English-speaking countries worldwide. Their TEFL ‘training program’ lasts about two months per student, so you would only have to commit for a short time, and they will provide you with all of the essential teaching materials, so all of the prep work is done for you! It’s a fantastic way to gain experience while making a meaningful impact in people’s lives!

The only requirement is that you be able to commit to at least 4 hours per week. We recommend that you first get TEFL certified to truly aid your students by giving quality instruction!

You might also join a helpful Facebook group for guidance on online teaching. Do you need to earn your TEFL certification before applying for online jobs? Request a free call back, and one of our TEFL Experts will gladly assist you.

Online teaching positions are normally flexible short-term opportunities with around 15-20 hours of teaching a week. Teaching online means you have the flexibility to teach wherever you are in the world – from the comfort of home or in an exotic faraway land! It’s also a lot easier to set your own schedule and fit your teaching hours around your lifestyle. Online teaching roles are aimed mainly at teaching young learners via an online interactive learning platform. But there are opportunities to tutor adults, too.

Most online TEFL companies will ask for a minimum of 120 hours of TEFL training and teaching practice. Some online companies may ask their teachers to also have a bachelor’s degree. This is particularly true for Chinese companies, as it’s a government regulation (no matter where you are living).

You will more than likely need high-speed internet, a computer with an HD webcam and a headset if you want to teach online. If you have the choice of a video calling platform for your online lessons, Zoom is a good choice. It gives you a clear view of your students. You can also share your screen and create separate rooms for group work in lessons.

If you have no experience in teaching online, a good idea is to get some teaching practice in as employers may ask for “experience” hours, which are unpaid. You can alternatively complete our 10 Hour Virtual TEFL Course, which has a section focused on teaching English online.

You can add our 30 Hour Teaching English Online Course to any primary course to boost your knowledge and skills. The teaching English online course is a huge benefit because it prepares you to enter the online tutoring world – and looks great on a CV, too!

Then there’s our Professional Online Expert Course. This is a specialised online teacher qualification that gives you the skillset and the confidence to hit the ground running. This package includes the 120 Hour Advanced TEFL Course, 30 Hour Teaching English Online and the 30 Hour Teaching Young Learners to give you an edge in a competitive market.
