From beginner vocab like HELLO and GOODBYE, you’ll study the tools to teach vocabulary and use them effectively so your students can use them in the proper context.

By the end of this module, you’ll also know your present continuous from your present simple tense. Most of all, you’ll be familiar and confident with grammatical terms.

Module Four: How to Teach Reaching & Listening Skills

These are called ‘Receptive skills’ because the student is receiving language. By the end of this lesson, you’ll know the most effective ways to engage students in reading English and how to write it. This includes setting listening tasks to music, audio stories and recordings to reading articles, emails, Facebook posts both inside and outside the classroom.

  • 5 Modules Five:

Module Five: How to Teach Writing & Speaking Skills

These are called ‘Productive skills’ because students produce language. You’ll learn plenty of useful ideas about how to get your students up on their feet and chat with you about their favourite superheroes, games or pets. The accreditation number is 2854-2540.

The Vital Consular:

What is this verification seal, and why is it different to an accreditation? The TEFL Institute is a verified UK TEFL provider, meaning that you can study any one of our courses with the knowledge that it will be fit for purpose when you need to use it overseas for your new teaching role. The Vital Consular verification scheme ensures that the members are all recognised by the UK Government. If your certificate doesn’t get past the first stage of legalisation by the UK Government, you’ll likely have to start a new course, costing you extra time and money before you can even get things moving.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TEFL?

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It is primarily teaching non-native speakers English without the use of translation. This means you won’t need to know their first language. TEFL teachers will need the knowledge and know-how of the methodologies to teach this way. This is why teachers must first complete a TEFL course and gain the qualification. TEFL is widely used to teach English online in one-to-one or small group scenarios or to teach English abroad and is sometimes even used as an easier way to travel.

Who can do a TEFL course?

First and foremost, aspiring TEFL teachers must be outgoing and confident, and not afraid to make themselves look a little silly, especially when teaching children. Expression is a huge part of the methodologies to be able to get your point across. You’ll warm up to this in time, and it all takes practice.

We suggest people be at least 16 with a C1 level of English or higher. If you’re not sure, we have a free English test. We also would recommend people who work on their own initiative as it is an online course and you will need to be your own motivation.

What do I need to teach online?

If you have no experience in teaching online, the good idea is to get some teaching practice in, as they may ask for “experience” hours, which are unpaid. You can alternatively complete our 10-hour Methodologies course, which has a section focused on teaching English online.

Most online companies will ask for your TEFL certificate, teaching practice, accessibility to good WiFi, a laptop or other computer devices, and headphones. Some online companies may ask their teachers also to have a Bachelor’s Degree. This is evident in Chinese online companies, as it is a government regulation (no matter where you live).

How are the courses laid out?

Our courses contain content, videos, podcasts, reflective tasks, and tests. They are online courses and can be completed independently and from home.

Our specialist courses are much shorter than the main TEFL qualifications. They are all completed online and in your own time. All tests are done online and corrected instantly. They have course content and tests throughout the course. They can be completed before or after the main TEFL qualification.

Are the courses accredited?

The TEFL Institute is fully accredited by ACDL. Our 180-hour Level OFQUAL regulates 5 TEFL courses.

Is this course completely online? How flexible is this course?

All courses are done online, and no travelling is required for the tests. Except for the 10-hour Virtual training, you can log on anytime. This is to ensure our TEFL courses can be done while working or for other studies. There is a 6-month deadline for the courses, but you can contact us for extensions.

I cannot recommend The TEFL Institute of Ireland enough for anyone interested in entering the world of English language teaching . The courses are accessible, easy to follow, convey exactly what is necessary, and highly varied, allowing anyone to find their speciality in this field .On par with this however, the institution is exceptionally helpful, patient, and has plenty of useful advice should issues arise during study or job searching. Jessica in particular has been indispensable in my own endeavours.

I recently completed the 180-hr TEFL Diploma + 30-hr Business English module. Throughout the course I regularly sought advice, receiving superb support from Laura Graham. Towards the end of the Diploma, I made contact with Jessica Jeffery, who gave me expert guidance on preparing to teach TEFL. Whatever question I posed, she provided answers and solutions. These TEFL support people were at all times very friendly, ever-helpful, and all in quick response time. A warm and personal touch!

Overall, I enjoyed and was determined to gain my TEFL Certificate. I liked learning about the different ways of learning English in person and online, learning about different types of ways to teach students like using realia, for example ,and learning about how to write lesson plans. Initially, I found learning to write the lesson plans annoying and irritating, but eventually, I found that to be one of the most rewarding parts of the course. Being able to write a lesson plan helps one go in with a plan to help guide and teach students the English language. I see the emphasis on learning to write lesson plans during the course to be a very insightful idea on the part of TEFL Institute of Ireland. It builds confidence, gives one an idea on how to conduct a lesson, and builds a foundation on which to start from. The cons I had with the TEFL Institute of Ireland is that there were either spelling, grammar, or punctuation mistakes, certain lessons could not be confirmed to be completed because the arrow button was grayed out, and lastly, the assessments take way too long to complete because there were about 20 - 30 questions in one assessment and they were all open-ended. I think that they could have chosen for students to have half the number of assessment questions (10 - 15 questions) or could have made some of them multiple choice.Mr. John Curry spoke to me in the beginning when I was getting ready to start the TEFL Certification course and the recommendations he gave to me were helpful. Also, during the "How to change your career in 2026 with TEFL Certification" Zoom Webinar, Mr. Curry's explanation of his experience and the job related information was confidence-building and encouraging.I am grateful for the benefits I have received from being receiving my TEFL Certification from the TEFL Institute of Ireland.

I have just finished the 10 hour Advanced Certificate in TEFL Classroom Methodologies course. The course was excellent very informative, and I learned great strategies to use in the classroom. Michelle Benson was an excellent instructor, as she has a bubbly personality and a wealth of experience in the area. Michelle kept all the students engaged through interactive classes over the two days while maintaining a fun and relaxed learning environment. I would not hesitate to recommend this course!
