Test your english

After completing this 240-hour TEFL Course, teaching English abroad will make you one of the most highly qualified English teachers for hire. With this course, you’ll get the Level 5 180 Hour TEFL Course and two of the most popular and in-demand 30-hour specialist courses; IELTS and TOEIC.

By doing the 180 hour Level 5 TEFL Course from the TEFL Institute, you will have access to the most competitive TEFL jobs worldwide. You will also be able to teach adults and children, including work in native English-speaking countries.
Teaching IELTS or TOEIC preparation courses is the most lucrative job in English Language Teaching (ELT). Qualified teachers can earn up to €35 per hour! IELTS preparation teachers are in huge demand, especially pre-university students who require a premium score to obtain visas to study abroad in English.

Having IELTS on your CV means to any TEFL employer that you’ll be able to teach English abroad in any classroom and deliver effective language lessons online. With the theory and practical suggestions this course provides, you will be able to teach English as a foreign language with confidence that your lesson plans offer your students the necessary prep work to pass the IELTS exams.

The additional 30-hour TOEIC module is designed to provide you with the specialist skills to prepare those looking to take the TOEIC test with a formal business level of English. Because English is the most commonly spoken language in the business world, there is a high demand for TOEIC proficient teachers.

Technology has transformed the TEFL industry, and teaching is no longer confined to a classroom. Nine million students sit the IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) and TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) proficiency exams every year. The 180-hour Level 5 TEFL course, along with the two additional 30-hour modules, will give you the qualifications and skills to take advantage of this growing TEFL market. Think: Podcasts, videos and flashcards. TikTok, YouTube and Facebook. Newsfeeds, Buzzfeed and Spotify. This will make your job as a creative teacher much simpler and will help you create compelling, relevant and useful lessons either online or in the classroom.

faqs
  • WHAT IS TEFL?

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It is primarily teaching non-native speakers English without the use of translation. This means you won’t need to know their first language. TEFL teachers will need the knowledge and know-how of the methodologies to teach in this way. This is why teachers will first need to complete a TEFL course and gain the qualification. TEFL is widely used to either teach English online in one-to-one or small group scenarios or to teach English abroad and sometimes even used as an easier way to travel.

  • WHO CAN DO A TEFL COURSE?

First and foremost, an aspiring TEFL teacher must be outgoing and confident, and not afraid to make themselves look a little silly, especially when teaching children. Expression is a huge part of the methodologies to be able to get your point across. You’ll warm up to this in time and it all takes practice.

We suggest people to be at least 16 with a C1 level of English or higher. If you’re not sure, we have a free English test. We also would recommend people who work on their own initiative as it is an online course and you will need to be your own motivation.

  • WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY TEFL CERTIFICATE?

As a TEFL qualified teacher, the world is your oyster. Our 120 hour TEFL certificate is fully accredited and internationally recognized, meaning you can teach online or around the globe. If you are looking to teach in your home country at a language center or would like to go to the UAE, we would suggest you doing our higher level qualification, our 180 hour level 5 TEFL course, as this is the requirement in such competitive countries.

  • WHAT DOES LEVEL 5 MEAN?

A Level 5 TEFL course is one that is regulated by Ofqual according to their qualifications framework. Another Level 5 teaching qualification is the CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Once qualified with a Level 5 TEFL qualification, you’ll have access to the most competitive jobs worldwide.

  • WHAT DOES REGULATED MEAN?

A regulated qualification means that it is officially recognized by the government and sits on the Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications.

  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 120 HOUR TEFL COURSE AND THE 180 HOUR LEVEL 5 TEFL COURSE?

Both courses are your main TEFL qualification and give you the opportunity to start your ESL career. However, there are a few differences between them and the right choice will depend on your story and goals.

The 180 hour course is a level 5 qualification and can be compared to a CELTA or TrinityTESOL. This course is harder and longer to complete, but worth it in the end as it opens up so many opportunities. This course should be taken if you’d like to teach in your home country or certain places in Asia.

  • HOW ARE THE COURSES LAID OUT?

Our courses are filled with course content, videos, podcasts, reflective tasks, and tests. They are online courses and can be completed in your own time and from home.

Our 180 hour TEFL course has 11 modules with a test at the end of each module, consisting of both MCQs and open-ended questions. This level 5 course has a 100% pass mark. All of the tests can be taken online and submitted. Our system will correct your multiple choice answers immediately and you’ll be asked to retake the test if not correct. You can retake the test as many times as you need. The open ended answers are checked by our assessment team and you will get feedback if your answers need to be changed. You won’t get an unlimited number of times and there may be an extra to repeat so be sure to take their feedback into account. Once our assessors pass you, your level 5 government regulated certificate will be issued. You are given 6 months to complete the course, but extensions are available if needed.

Our specialist courses are completely online and include multiple choice questions. This means your work will be corrected instantly. Students are required to get an 80% pass rate.

  • TELL ME ABOUT THE CORRECTION/ ASSESSMENT PROCESSES?

All online course tests are corrected instantly, with the exception of our 180 hour Level 5 TEFL course. All accredited courses require an 80% pass rate and retests are free.

The 180 hour level 5 TEFL course contains both multiple choice and open ended questions. The multiple choice questions are corrected instantly like normal, but word count is the only factor corrected instantly with the open ended answers. After every three modules, our expert assessors will correct your answers and give you some tips if an answer is not up to standard. Although the instant corrections are free to redo, you may be charged if your long answers are incorrect for a third time, so please take their advice into account when completing the reassessment process.

  • IS THE CERTIFICATE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

There is a cost from the TQUK directly to issue the certificate. You can purchase this through our website and we will organize it for you.

Updated review 12th March 2024: I have just completed the Level 5 TEFL 180 hour diploma, and I am absolutely delighted with my experience at TEFL Ireland. The academic team are extremely professional and supportive. From start to finish Rachel Hammond was an excellent support, and provided expert guidance throughout the 6 month period. Also Laura from the academic team, has also been an absolutely brilliant support answering all the tricky questions I had, and she was always there on Discord chat with kind words of encouragement. This experience has really made me want to stay in touch with the TEFL community. I have nothing but positive words to say about them.Feedback for Michelle in September 2023:I just finished the 10 hour Virtual TEFL course tonight. It was brilliant from start to finish. Michelle Benson is an excellent presenter and teacher. She really engaged us and put us at ease, and she spent time answering our questions. As I only started TEFL at the start of September , I noticed as well that she explained the complicated verb tenses in English really well. It was very inspiring to listen to her, and I loved the way she explained the different parts of teaching. I'm so happy I've started this course. The 10 hour virtual course makes you feel much more enthusiastic too. Michelle has the magic!
