Accreditation
As a UK TEFL provider, we work with Highfield Qualifications to regulate and accredit our Level 5 courses, including the 180-hour TEFL diploma. Highfield is a deputy of the renowned regulator Ofqual. Their accreditation guarantees that the qualification we offer is suitable for use worldwide and is a vital tool if you want to apply for a visa or get a job.
The Accreditation Council for Distance Learning
The Accreditation Council for Distance Learning is a special accrediting body which promotes distance learning. The courses that they offer are required to maintain the high standards they have designed in-house. We are proud to have received the accreditation we currently have with the group and have an accreditation number of 2854–2540. We have worked hard to achieve this accreditation and are required to regularly undergo testing in order to maintain it.
The Vital Consular is difficult to understand at first because it is not an accreditation. Instead, it is what we call a verification seal. As a UK-based provider, we have worked hard to be verified. If you take one of our qualifications and go abroad with it, whether that is to work in South Africa or anywhere else, you will be able to use your qualifications as part of job applications.
The verification scheme helps with this by making sure that the qualification is recognised and authenticated by the UK government. They are a regulated and globally acknowledged body that has legitimate authority. If you intend to visit China, Vietnam, or Taiwan, you will be required to legalise your documents and authenticate them if you want to use them as part of your application. If you don’t have a legitimate document, you will be required to obtain one, and this can take time and cost money.
We are a globally recognised TEFL provider. Our academic team works tirelessly to deliver fantastic courses and ensure that we are accredited when necessary to guarantee that your qualifications can be used anywhere in the world. We are proud of the verification we have received and the ongoing accreditation we continue to enjoy.
ODLQC
The Open and Distance Learning Quality Council was first created in the US in 1969. The group has evolved over the years and has been known by more than one name. However, the mission that they worked to undertake remains the same. They have a singular goal of safeguarding the interests of learners in order to guarantee high levels of quality when providing education.
With this in mind, the standards they provide have been regulated and defined by their own team. Anybody who wants to apply for accreditation will have to meet these rigorous standards. We have worked hard to maintain our accreditation, and we are required to test on a regular basis to maintain it.

What does Level 5 mean?
A Level 5 qualification is generally considered to be at a higher education level, typically equivalent to a diploma or associate degree. Here are some common examples of Level 5 qualifications:
Foundation Degree (UK): Equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. It typically involves practical and academic training and is often focused on a specific profession or field of study.
Higher National Diploma (HND): This is a vocational qualification in the UK, often used in areas like business, engineering, and computing. It is typically considered equivalent to the second year of a university degree.
Level 5 Diploma (Various sectors): In the UK, Level 5 diplomas are offered in areas such as leadership and management, health and social care, and education. These qualifications are typically pursued by those looking to advance their career or specialize in a particular area.
In the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), Level 5 generally corresponds to post-secondary education, which may include both academic and vocational pathways. Similarly, in other countries like Australia or Canada, a Level 5 qualification may align with a diploma or an associate degree.
What does regulate mean?
A regulated qualification is one which is monitored and controlled by an external party for the sake of maintaining quality and high standards.
What is a TEFL certification?
TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Gaining certification from us permits you to legally teach in countries around the world. It is a formal qualification recognized by schools and businesses worldwide, and your main work will be teaching English as a foreign language to non-native speakers. The more advanced the course, the better job opportunities you will have.
How do I get a TEFL certificate?
If you want to get one of our certificates, you have to complete one of our courses. The smallest main qualification we offer is the 120-hour course. There are shorter qualifications than this, but they are meant to supplement your skill set, not replace it.
Completing the course online is considered the most flexible way to start your career. You can do it at home from South Africa or anywhere in the world. You can study at your own pace, so it’s very flexible for people who have other commitments. In certain instances, we offer a course that combines independent study with practical sessions that you can attend via a webcam. These will take place at specific times, so it’s important to consider this when planning studies.
When you choose a course, make sure that it is fully accredited, that you will receive at least 120 hours of training, whether or not you get support and that it is recognized in both your home country and the country you want to teach in.
What is the difference between TEFL/TESOL/CELTA?
TEFL
TEFL is teaching English as a foreign language. It’s the most recognized certificate in the world and one which you will encounter most frequently.
To complete the 120-hour course, you will need to register for it, study and fulfill the entry criteria, which for us is a C1 level of proficiency in English and a minimum of an online device that accesses the study platform.
TESOL
Depending on where you go, TESOL might be called TESL. It’s a qualification which refers to teaching English as the second language, and is similar to a TEFL qualification, but has a few differences. Primarily, you will be teaching English in your home country to those individuals who have moved there and want to speak the language.
CELTA
CELTA is an acronym for Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. This is one of the most difficult and prestigious language qualifications that you can earn. You will need to complete a 120-hour course and spend six hours teaching in a real classroom. This course is a full-time commitment and runs for over a month; even the online ones are rigid and strict with how you study. They have been designed and are regulated by rules made by Cambridge University. Courses like this can be expensive to participate in because they require intensive study.
What does TEFL stand for?
TEFL is an acronym which stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. You’ll find that TEFL courses are recognized worldwide and come in a range of lengths and difficulties.
Which TEFL course to take?
We would understand completely if you were confused about which course was right for you. As long as you can speak English at a native or near-native level, you will get approved for all the courses we provide. The only thing we do say is that non-native English speakers might find the level 5 course quite challenging. If you’re not sure about your English ability, we encourage you to take our free test. It will tell you everything that you need to know about your English ability and whether or not the course is right for you. You need to get at least a 6.5 in order to be suitable for the course.
Do I need a Bachelor’s degree to take a TEFL course?
The good news is that you don’t need to have a degree to take out TEFL courses. This is a misconception that a lot of people have – the truth is that anyone who has fluency in English can enroll onto one of our courses and earn a qualification.
There are certain parts of the world that require you to have a work permit, such as Japan and Korea. These permits often require you to have a degree to go with the other qualifications you need to submit. However, you should not be dissuaded by this. The truth is that there are plenty of places in the world where you can go and study without having a degree.
What’s the difference between Accredited TEFL Courses and Government Regulated Level 5 TEFL Courses?
We get asked a lot if there are any significant differences between the courses that we provide. To give you a good example, we’ll look at the difference between the 120-hour and 180-hour courses we offer.
The 120-Hour Course
This course is our shortest qualification which will get you into teaching and is the minimum requirement for any new teacher who wants to go and work.
In this course, you have ten modules to complete and six months to do it. The course can be completed in the equivalent of four weeks of study, which is why you have six months; most can’t commit to full-time studies.
Once you complete the course you will get a digital certificate. The physical copy of your certificate can be purchased separately.
The 180-Hour Level 5 Course
The 180-hour course is different from the 120-hour course. It is a government-regulated course which takes anywhere from 10-12 weeks to complete. As this is a UK Government-approved course, you’ll need a 100% pass mark on all tests. The academic team takes a look at the answers you provide for all assessments and then asks you to retake any of the courses you did not pass.
Once you have finished the course, you will get a digital certificate that shows you have earned your qualification. You’ll be able to claim your government-approved physical copy once you have been assessed and approved by the academic team.
What are the benefits of completing a Level 5 TEFL Course?
As a government-regulated qualification, the Level 5 TEFL diploma is known around the world. It is a bespoke course which offers you access to most jobs around the world and is equal to a foundation degree and other relevant qualifications.
What’s the age restriction for taking a TEFL course?
There are no age restrictions in place for completing one of our courses. However, in most places around the world you need to be 18 or older to get a job so this serves as an informal restriction for most people. There is nothing to stop you getting certified before this, however.
What does Ofqual stand for?
Ofqual is The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Registration. They are the group who regulate qualifications, exams and assessments here in the UK – where we’re based!
Am I too old to teach English abroad?
We don’t believe in placing an age limit on those who want to get a TEFL qualification. You may find that the experience and life skills you gained from being older may help you secure a job and develop good study habits – there’s always a way to learn new skills at any age.
Do I need to speak another language to teach English abroad?
You’re not expected to be able to speak another language prior to becoming an English teacher. You can often work in places around the world, and English will be spoken enough to help you get by. plus, it is used in the classroom. However, we recommend you consider learning the language of wherever you teach, especially if you plan to be there for a long time.
Which course should I take if I only want to focus on teaching English online?
If you want to teach English specifically online, then we suggest you take a look at the 180-hour TEFL course we have on offer. It will help you to gain all the skills necessary to become a capable teacher. We also suggest you check out these extra courses to broaden your perspectives;
