Our brand-new Level 5 Teaching Other Subjects in English (CLIL) is perfect for you if you’re already qualified in teaching another subject (History, Literature etc) or perhaps you have a keen interest in this area. Teaching CLIL can be an interesting diversion from General English and is great for combining two areas of your knowledge! This course will prepare you with the knowledge to teach other subjects in the English language, furthering your students’ knowledge not only in English but in the subject of choice too.

This type of teaching is popular in Asia and summer schools worldwide. If you gain a qualification in Teaching Other Subjects then your potential employers will be very keen to interview you, as this is a niche area of teaching. Having a qualification in Teaching Other Subjects in English will show your potential employers that you have the specialist knowledge required to teach this area.

In our 60-hour accredited course, you will learn about this area of teaching the English language and where and when these classes are commonly implemented and what that means for you as a TEFL teacher. • WHAT IS TEFL?

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It is primarily teaching non-native speakers English without the use of translation. This means you won’t need to know their first language. TEFL teachers will need the knowledge and know-how of the methodologies to teach in this way. This is why teachers will first need to complete a TEFL course and gain the qualification. TEFL is widely used to either teach English online in one-to-one or small group scenarios or to teach English abroad and sometimes even used as an easier way to travel.

  • WHO CAN DO A TEFL COURSE?

First and foremost, an aspiring TEFL teacher must be outgoing and confident, and not afraid to make themselves look a little silly, especially when teaching children. Expression is a huge part of the methodologies to be able to get your point across. You’ll warm up to this in time and it all takes practice.

We suggest people to be at least 16 with a C1 level of English or higher. If you’re not sure, we have a free English test. We also would recommend people who work on their own initiative as it is an online course and you will need to be your own motivation.

  • WHAT DO I NEED TO TEACH ONLINE?

If you have no experience in teaching online, a good idea is to get some teaching practice in as they may ask for “experience” hours, which are unpaid. You can alternatively complete our 10 hour Methodologies course, which has a section focused on teaching English online.

Most online companies will ask for your TEFL certificate, teaching practice, to have accessibility to good WiFi, a laptop or other computer devices, and headphones. Some online companies may ask their teachers to also have a Bachelor’s Degree. This is evident in Chinese online companies, as it is a government regulation (no matter where you are currently living).

  • HOW ARE THE COURSES LAID OUT?

Our courses are filled with course content, videos, podcasts, reflective tasks, and tests. They are online courses and can be completed in your own time and from home.

Our specialist courses are much shorter than the main TEFL qualifications. They are all completed online and in your own time. All tests are done online and corrected instantly. They have course content and tests throughout the course. They can be completed before or after the main TEFL qualification.

  • ARE THE COURSES ACCREDITED?

The TEFL Institute is fully accredited by the TQUK (center number: C000854) and ACDL. Our 180 hour Level 5 TEFL course is regulated by OFQUAL.

  • IS THIS COURSE COMPLETELY ONLINE? HOW FLEXIBLE IS THIS COURSE?

All courses are all done online and no travelling is required for the tests. Except for the 10 hour Virtual training, you can log on at any time. This is to ensure our TEFL courses can be done while working or other studies. There is a 6 month deadline to the courses, but you can contact us for extensions.

I enrolled in the 30 hour Teaching Business English Course. It was very straightforward and a good addition to my 120 hour TEFL certificate. There are recommendations for resources and websites at the end of most modules which will be very helpful in my teaching career.

I liked the content which was well organised providing additional materials and reference for reading on the online platform. You can study on your own pace and time which is very comfortable. I'd like to add my special thanks for support to customer support adviser Rachel Walch. Thank you for a course!

I have been very pleased with the Tefl 30 hour course I chose. I had to extend the time on the course due to a bereavement and the team couldn’t have been more helpful. Rachel Walsh sorted things out for me very efficiently. Many thanks 🙏🏻
