What will I learn?
The 120-hour course is the shortest qualification, and it provides you with a recognised TEFL certification suitable for teaching English anywhere you like in the world. Employers will expect you to have at least 120 hours of study, and this is the qualification that you can use to get the minimum criteria necessary to become a teacher.
To provide you with the best learning experience, we have designed a qualification which is meant to be engaging and flexible. We have combined videos with written content and other forms of interactive media to ensure you can learn in a way that works for you. We recommend that all of our learners have a minimum C1 level of proficiency in English to complete the qualification and access to a device that can support the online platform to complete their studies.
We are proud to announce our new verification page, which employers can use to authenticate your qualifications before providing you with a job offer. The page can be used to authenticate any of the qualifications we provide
Course Content
The courses that we offer are broken up into ten different modules. Each module is a mixture of different materials designed to help you learn in the right way. You can choose between audio, video and written content for each of your modules. You will be given an education in the fundamentals of teaching, learning how to structure a lesson, teach grammar to your students, and have fluent conversations while encouraging students to improve.
We find that the average completion time for the qualification is four weeks of study. However, we recognise that not all of our students will have four solid weeks to dedicate to their studies, which is why you have a six-month deadline to complete the course. We prefer that you take the time to fully absorb the information being provided to you instead of rushing through the course to complete it as quickly as you can.

1-3 Modules One-Three:
Module One: How to Make Sense of Teacher/Learner Needs
The first module of the course is concerned with understanding the needs of a learner from the perspective of a teacher. You will learn why students need English as a foreign language, as well as how to ascertain the initial language ability of your students to start preparing lessons. We also cover the basics of teaching.
Moudle Two: How to Understand and Use Grammatical & Teaching Terminology
The second module is all about teaching you the basics of grammar and understanding how to teach it effectively to your students. You will be able to differentiate the different uses of grammar in certain situations and then give that information to your students in a way that they can understand. This is a big module, so we don’t provide an examination at the end. Instead, give it a little later in the course once you have developed your skills with the other modules.
Module Three: How to Plan Your Syllabus & Lessons
The third module is all about learning how to structure and plan according to a syllabus and create lessons to suit your role as a teacher. You will be given an education in different planning techniques, how to create lessons that follow a syllabus, and how to provide a proper education for your students. We will also teach you how to maintain control of the classroom, as this has been proven to be one of the hardest tasks for a new teacher who needs more confidence in their classroom presence.
-
4-6 Modules Four-Six:
Module Four: How to Teach Grammar
The fourth module is all about instruction and grammar. You will get a more advanced education on teaching grammar and how to work with students. This is also where we begin introducing official examinations and tests surrounding grammar now that you are confident enough to attempt them.
Module Five: How to Teach Vocabulary
Once you have completed the fifth module in the course, you are halfway through your education as a new teacher. In this module, we look at vocabulary. Out of the roughly 171,000 words in the English language, we expect you to teach a few hundred to your students as part of your daily responsibilities. You will be taught how to recognise both simple and complex vocabulary, as well as understand techniques that you can use to help students recognise the correct phrases necessary for conversation.
Module Six: How to Teach Pronunciation
Pronunciation is a core part of teaching English as a foreign language. Students will naturally look to you as a guide on how to pronounce more complicated words, and we will teach you how to be a proper model for pronunciation. You will be able to work with your students to give them the confidence necessary to succeed.
-
7-10 Modules Seven-Ten:
Module Seven: How to Teach Reading & Listening Skills
The seventh model of the course will focus on receptive skills. These are skills that help with receiving language specifically, and they refer to reading and listening skills.
Once you have successfully completed this module, you will understand how to help your students read and listen to English. We help you build extracurricular tasks and teaching strategies that make use of the common tools you have both in the classroom and outside of it.
Module Eight: How to teach Writing & Speaking Skills
The eighth module gets to grips with productive skills. These are skills which help with speaking and writing English as a foreign language, and are much more active than receptive skills. However, it’s important for a student to master both productive and receptive skills in order to succeed.
Once you’ve completed the module, you will be giving your students the tools they require to thrive in any arena.
Module Nine: How to Teach English for Specific Purposes
The ninth module of the course is all about being able to teach English for a specific purpose, known otherwise as ESP. All of your students will be trying to learn English for different reasons, and it is your job to help tailor the lessons that you provide to give them the best opportunity for success.
We also take a look at reasons why students are choosing to learn English as a foreign language, and how you help them grow and thrive as a result.
Module 10: Module Ten: How to Move from Learning to Earning
The final module of the course focuses on you as a teacher and gives you some information about getting employment. Once you’ve graduated, you will need to use your new skills to find a job. We help you understand how this process works and also allow you access to the extensive network we have built so you can get opportunities to begin your career.
Accreditation
Our level 5 TEFL qualification has been accredited by Highfield. This is a group who work in the UK, and are closely associated with UK regulator Ofqual. When they provide accreditation to a course, it is a noteworthy seal of approval and something which a lot of companies work for years to attain.
We have worked very hard to gain accreditation status, and we are thrilled that we have been recognised as a worthy provider. We have to maintain high standards throughout the year in order to maintain our accreditation, and we are assessed on a regular basis. However, the qualifications that we have, which are verified, can be used all over the world, so it was well worth doing.
The Open and Distance Learning Quality Council has been operating since 1969 and is based in America. The group works to provide accreditation and monitoring for distance learning providers like us. They have created a set of proprietary criteria that they use to judge businesses, and these criteria are refined over the years and regularly reviewed to make sure that they are current and suitable. Anybody who has been accredited by this provider is going to have had to have worked very hard in order to get their approval.
This accreditation is not like other accreditations. It’s not technically an accreditation scheme so much as a seal of approval. Let us explain.
As you are aware, we are a fully verified UK TEFL provider. We have worked very hard to maintain this reputation. If you have one of our qualifications, you can take it anywhere in the world and use it to apply for a job or a work permit. This means that there are no real limits with regard to what you can do as a new teacher. This specific verification seal means that we have the UK Government providing authentication for all the qualifications we offer.
This is important because if you try to get a job in a place like China or Taiwan, you will have to provide authenticated, recognised qualifications as part of your application for a work permit. If your application doesn’t contain verified qualifications, you may be asked to acquire a qualification which is recognised that will delay your teaching career by a few years in the worst cases. Obviously, the UK Government is a recognised authority around the world, so having their sea of approval means that you can get straight to teaching.
