Second of all, you need access to a desktop computer to be able to view the course materials. It’s a good idea to invest in a computer early because it will help you a lot when it comes to teaching.

So, the course that we provide for you has 10 modules to it. In this course, you learn all about teaching English as a foreign language. The course is available in multiple formats so you can pick whatever style of learning is best for you.

We try to make sure that you will have a well-rounded education because we know how important that can be. We want you to be able to go anywhere with your certification and teach wherever you want.

We give you six months to complete your course. Now, technically speaking, you can finish in as little as four weeks, but six months is much more realistic. Lots of people have other obligations that they have to fulfil whilst they study. You might have a job, or a family, or some other commitment that means you can’t just sit and study for six days at a time.

Now, obviously, Texas does have a public education system like most of the USA. However, with that being said, it’s not impossible to get a job in the public education system. You just have to be highly qualified and very committed to your work.

International Schools

The international schooling system exists for anybody who wants to send their child to a prestigious education and pay for the privilege of getting them taught a range of different subjects. The benefit for a teacher is that the compensation package available working at a private institution can be much more lucrative than if you were just a normal teacher and public education. You can have a higher salary, perks like a travel allowance, and the prestige of teaching at a private school.

Understandably, the requirements to get a job in this type of place is much higher, and you will be competing with qualified Americans who will be looking for the same opportunities you are. It’s not impossible, and it can be well worth your time to explore the different options.

Language Schools

The most likely place that you will find a job as a newly qualified teacher is in a language school. Language schools exist for a very simple purpose. They aim to teach people who are not in public education either basic English or business English, depending on their needs. This means that the students are normally adults, and you are predominantly working in the evenings and on the weekends.

This is a pretty good place to get started. You can earn a wage and build up your experience. However, with that being said, this is not a full-time job. Most contracts are part-time, so you will have to take what you can get and supplement your income to fill-in the hours that you are not getting as part of your contract.

Tutoring

A lot of English teachers find that the best way to keep their income at a good level is to pick up a side hustle which is tutoring more often than not. Starting your own tutoring business is something you are well within your rights to do and you can decide what students you work with, how much you charge them, and the way you want to teach. It’s complete freedom, but it does come with a few caveats. First of all, you will be expected to declare your income to the US government and pay any taxes that you are found to owe. Second of all, you will have to try and secure students by trading on your reputation, which can be a little slow to start with.

As we live in an increasingly online world, it is perfectly normal to start teaching on the Internet. If you have a stable connection, you can teach from anywhere in America, and you can teach students from all over the world if you are prepared to juggle time zones.

There are some full-time remote positions available with education providers, but you will need to make sure you have the right qualifications for the job in order to get them. It can be a bit chaotic when you first try to look for remote work, but teaching online is a valid way to make money.

So, if you want to teach English as a foreign language in America, it’s pretty straightforward to do. If you are capable of showing evidence that you’re there to work and that you can contribute to America in a positive way, it’s not difficult to get a Visa. That’s pretty much all you need to get started, although you will have to register whatever local authorities deem necessary in Texas.

The only real thing to keep in mind about this type of process is that they can take a while. Your best bet will often be to take your time with it and get it done properly, because making mistakes will come back to bite you later on.

Chicago

Chicago is another option for anybody who wants to enjoy somewhere diverse and unique. It’s quite a bit to appreciate in Chicago, so it’s not exactly difficult to see why people would enjoy living there. Plus, you have to try their interpretation of pizza.

The amount of money that you can earn working as a teacher in Texas will depend on your ability to find a profitable career. If you want to aim to make a full-time salary, then you’re looking at about $4500 – $5000 a month.

Texas is a nice place to live because the cost-of-living is quite reasonable. Obviously, the type of lifestyle that you want to have will be tied to how much money you make.

The only real bugbear for living somewhere like Texas or the USA generally is the healthcare problem. Healthcare is entirely privatised in the USA. There’s no free healthcare at all, so if you want to go to hospital, you have to pay for it in full. This means that you either don’t get health insurance and take your chances, or you do get health insurance and pay a non-specified amount every month in order to not go bankrupt the second you have to step foot in the hospital.
