Module 3: The Principles of Learners’ Needs and Teaching Methodologies for Online and Face-to-Face Learning

In this third module, we start to take a look at the core aspects of teaching by tackling the concept of methodologies. We start by looking into the history of the English language and how it has grown and changed over time, along with how lessons have been adapted and converted into suitable tools for teaching in-person or online.

Once we have successfully completed this module, you will have all the skills and tools that you need for success. Furthermore, you will have a key understanding of how English has been taught, how it is taught, and how it might be taught in the future to meet the demands of an ever-changing world. To help with this, we give you tools you can use to support your students and the support you’ll need to be able to design your own tools.

Module 4: The Principles of Teaching Receptive Skills for Online and Face-to-Face Learning

The fourth module of the course is the turning point towards exploring new and sophisticated concepts. For example, we start by taking a look at receptive skills – skills which are useful for receiving language. These skills, known formally as listening and teaching, help to provide you with the ideas and tools you need to thrive as a teacher, including the techniques needed to help students grow and learn regardless of how they attend your lessons.

Module 5: The Principles of Teaching Productive Skills for Online and Face-to-Face Learning

The halfway point of the 180-hour course means that it is finally time to get stuck into productive skills – skills used in the production of both written and spoken language. These skills are usually harder for a student to learn, which is why we’ve worked hard to ensure that you’re ready to support your learners with the skills and techniques we teach. 

We look at communication tasks you can do in a classroom that make use of ordinary tools and resources. You will also learn how to adapt lesson objectives to meet a specific need and how to provide feedback and support for your learners.

Lesson planning is a core part of every teaching job, and you’ll need to be able to build a lesson around the core parts of a syllabus. Don’t worry if that sounds big and scary, however. We’re here to help, and we have a lot of expertise when it comes to building lessons and planning out your classroom setting.

Module One: Principles of Teaching English Online

The first module of the course focuses on delivering the fundamentals of working as an online teacher and how it will impact your lessons and plans. There are a handful of key differences to keep in mind when working in an online space as opposed to a real classroom, and we aim to teach you all about them to help you grow and develop.

Module Two: The Principles of Teaching English One-to-One

One-to-one learning is a core part of working online as a teacher, and you’ll be taught how the process is different from other types of learning. There is a big demand for people to take classes in this way, and if you’re prepared to learn, then you’ll be able to expand your earning potential. We show you how to effectively teach in a one-to-one setting so you feel confident and ready for success.

Module Three: The Principles of Learners’ Needs and Creating a Syllabus for Teaching English One-to-One and Online

In this third module, we go over the needs of learners and how you can build up a syllabus for them to work with as a teacher. Naturally, you’ll be taught about the key differences between the virtual world and the physical one, as well as how to identify the needs of individual learners. 

Module Four: Tools, Materials and Practical Considerations For Teaching English Online and One-to-One

In the fourth module, we look at some of the practical considerations which go into teaching tools and how to design materials for a given situation. It’s never as simple as just making one teaching aid – you need to tailor things for different settings, and we can help you understand that in a practical, useful way.

Module Five: The Principles of Teacher Talking Time (TTT), Error Correction and Lesson Planning for Online and One-to-One Lessons

In Module 5, you will learn about how teacher talking time can be managed in online and one-to-one classes and how to correct errors in these lessons. Finally, you will combine your knowledge to produce lesson plans to teach your students and get valuable feedback!

Module One- The Principles of Teaching Business English

In this module, you’ll learn the fundamentals of Teaching Business English, including the key motivations for these learners and how your role as the teacher can influence these lessons. You’ll also look at the type of language typically taught in these courses and how this differs from General English.

Module Two- The Principles of Needs Analyses, Course Design, and Materials for Teaching Business English

In Module 2, you’ll learn all about Business English syllabuses and how to understand and implement these in courses that you teach. You’ll also look at classroom management techniques and how to use materials for teaching Business English.

Module Three- The Principles of Teaching Business English Skills

In the third module of the course, you’ll look at the key skills in English and how to teach these in the Business English context. You’ll examine how these are important for Business English learners and how to adapt your materials to suit the needs of the learners for these skills.

Module 4- The Principles of Teaching Business English Grammar, Vocabulary and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) 

In Module 4, you will look more closely at how we teach grammar and vocabulary in Business English classes and how important these are for this context. You’ll also look at the branch of English for Special Purposes (ESP) and what materials you might use if you decide to teach this niche of TEFL.

Module Five- The Principles of Business English Lesson Planning

In the final module of the Teaching Business English course, you will focus on incorporating everything you’ve learned so far into lesson planning for this context. You will practice writing lesson plans for Business English classes and reflect on your work to make you a better teacher.
