Module 2: The Principles of Teaching English Vocabulary

Once you have successfully mastered the fine art of grammatical theory, we can move on to the second module and take a look at vocabulary. This is a core part of being able to teach English as a foreign language. 

Throughout this module, you’ll learn how we teach different aspects of vocabulary and how you can grow and develop the skills of your learners. Once you have finished this module, you will be able to show learners how they can use grammar throughout their daily lives to achieve the tools necessary for success.

Module 3: The Principles of Learners’ Needs and Teaching Methodologies for Online and Face-to-Face Learning

In this third module, you will get a first look at teaching methodologies and how you can develop the skills necessary to be an effective teacher. We look at how to apply methods and tools from all over the world. These methods will naturally be different in an online setting; we compensate for this by showing you how to adjust them as necessary to succeed. 

You also get a proper history lesson on the nature of the English classroom and how it has evolved over time. We show you how the classroom of the future might look, too – how will it evolve and change? Finally, you will be shown how to identify needs in your learners and how to make courses and implement features that allow them to reach their full potential.

Module 4: The Principles of Teaching Receptive Skills for Online and Face-to-Face Learning

In the fourth module of this course, it is time to get a proper grip on receptive skills. These are skills that your students need if they want to receive language, and we focus on reading and listening throughout the course. These skills are undoubtedly key to developing your confidence as a learner, and if you want to master them, it is time to pay attention to what we’ve got to offer you. 

As a teacher, you should be aware that your learners will look to you as an example of how to do things, and we aim to help you prepare for this by showing them how to use tools outside the classroom to grow and succeed. These are things like magazines, YouTube videos, and podcasts – all of which are easy to access and help a lot with learning.

Once we have finished up here, you’ll feel confident in teaching classes in any setting you desire, be it online from your home in the Netherlands or in a classroom. Plus, we set up the next set of lessons where we look at the counterparts to receptive skills and explore productive ones.

Module 5: The Principles of Teaching Productive Skills for Online and Face-to-Face Learning

The fifth module of our course looks at the promised ‘productive skills’, and these are carefully designed to give you the best results at teaching students how to produce language, in this case, the arts of speaking and writing. You will find that these are harder for students to get the hang of, and this is perfectly understandable. However, we help equip your learners for this by giving you the tools you need to grow and thrive, so don’t worry – we’ve got you. 

You will be given a whole host of activities that you can use to help get your students in a prime position to learn and be engaged with what’s going on around them. We know how difficult these skills can be to master and that’s why we’ll help you design lessons that are fun and easy to understand – perfect for teaching.

Module 6: The Principles of Teaching Pronunciation and Phonology

Our sixth module is all about the tough stuff – phonology and pronunciation. These are generally agreed to be harder subjects for students, and that’s why we take it nice and slow: You may struggle with a few of the harder subjects yourself. We’re here to support you, and that’s a job we take very seriously. 

When you finish this module, you’ll be a capable expert who is confident in every aspect of English and also someone who can pronounce anything. After all, you’d be surprised how often your students will use you as a gold standard for pronouncing certain words, so you need to be comfortable with pronouncing anything to show them how it’s done.

Module 7: The Principles of Online Teaching Using Teaching Aids and Materials

The classroom is definitely a space you will need to get comfortable in – you’ll be working in one in one way or another. Therefore, you need to be familiar with the virtual classroom as well as the physical one so we show you how online teaching has grown and developed over the years. 

This part of the course focuses on the virtual realm and shows you how to develop and create new tools and strategies to help you thrive in an online setting. We look at things like translating some of the typical classroom aids into skills that can be used anywhere because, obviously, this is not as easy as it looks. Once we’re done with this module, you’ll be ready to teach English as a foreign language anywhere and can use your new skills to go abroad or work from the comfort of your home in the Netherlands.

Now that we’ve hit the eighth module of the course, we get a little closer to the cool bits about being a teacher. You’ll get a proper look at things like lesson planning, classroom management, and how to develop a teaching style which works for you. This is where you design your unique flair and build it into your role as a teacher, so people have a lot of fun with it.

We will show you how to do stuff like plan out a syllabus, build a teaching style which is going to work for you, and how to adapt to a world which is evolving and changing all the time – teachers are expected to keep up with the times.
