WHO CAN DO A TEFL COURSE?

First and foremost, aspiring TEFL teachers must be outgoing and confident, and not afraid to make themselves look a little silly, especially when teaching children. Expression is a huge part of the methodologies to get your point across. You’ll warm up to this in time, and it all takes practice. We suggest people be at least 17 with a C1 level of English or higher. If you’re not sure, we have a free English test. We also would recommend people who work on their own initiative as it is an online course and you will need to be your own motivation.

WHAT DO I NEED TO TEACH ONLINE?

If you have no experience in teaching online, a good idea is to get some teaching practice in, as they may ask for “experience” hours, which are unpaid. You can alternatively complete our 10-hour Methodologies course, which has a section focused on teaching English online. Most online companies will ask for your TEFL certificate, teaching practice, accessibility to good WiFi, a laptop or other computer devices, and headphones. Some online companies may ask their teachers also to have a Bachelor’s Degree. This is evident in Chinese online companies, as it is a government regulation (no matter where you live).

Module One: How are Words Formed?

Do you ever think about how words or parts of words can be joined together to change the meaning or to make brand-new words? Learn how words enter the English language and how they change over time so that you can share this knowledge with your students.

Module Two: How to Arrange Words into Sentences

Did you know that there are around 171,000 words in the English language? Don’t worry; you’ll only be asked to teach a few hundred of those! In this module, you will learn about building words into sentences and be ready to help students to create their own grammatically correct statements, whether they are simple, compound or complex.

Modules Three-Four:

Module Three: Time to Talk Tenses

Were you taught that there were three tenses: Past, Present and Future? Would it surprise you to know that there are, in fact, 12 (or 13, depending on who you ask) tenses in the English language? Spend time getting to grips with this valuable aspect of language teaching skills. Your future-teacher-self (and students) will thank you for it.

Module Four: How to Teach Advanced Grammar

Many entry-level TEFL jobs want you to focus on conversational English teaching. This is a great way to get first-time experience as a teacher, and it usually means less time spent on grammatical theory. But, there will come a time when you want to boost your earning power and be hired to know your present continuous from your present simple tense. And be able to explain it well to students. By the end of this module, you will be confident in your grammar teaching skills, plus have access to a long list of ready-to-roll activities for your grammar classes.

Highfields Qualifications:

The TEFL Institute’s Level 5 accrediting body is the (Highfield Qualifications). This qualification is aimed at those with little or no experience teaching English or those with previous experience seeking a recognised qualification to validate their knowledge. This qualification provides learners with a certificate recognised worldwide and can be used to secure teaching positions, visas and other employment related to English language teaching. I recently completed the 30-Hour Teaching Business English Course, and I learned so many interesting and useful things about how to plan, prepare, and create effective lessons.The course provides lots of valuable PDFs, videos, and links that allow you to explore the topics in greater depth and continue learning even after completing the course.I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to expand their knowledge, develop their teaching skills, and strengthen their potential as a Business English teacher!I also completed their “Using Generative AI in TEFL” course, which was very useful, especially because they recommended many AI teaching apps and websites that I had never heard of before.And when it comes to AI, the rule is always the same: create a good, well-written prompt and then refine it as necessary!

Really good course that you can complete in your own time! I found it very manageable and my Tutor marked all work very quickly! Within 1 day! Also, feedback is really detailed so if you do have any corrections to make, it is clear where you need to look (modules etc.) To fix it.Would recommend TEFL Institute to anyone interested in doing a TEFL course :)
