  • HMRC Self Assessment registration closes 5 October and Fulbright France closes 6 October, the two dates that cannot be argued with afterwards
  • The JET 2027 required documents list taken apart line by line, with the trap in each row, ahead of the 13 November close
  • EPIK Spring 2027 is rolling and rewards early applicants, TAPIF and NALCAP still carry no date, and the Irish and UK tax registrations in plain numbers

26 AUGJET conversion corrected from €23,500 to €21,800, and the opening month moved to the official timeline.

9 SEPEvery euro figure recomputed at ECB rates of 8 Sep. Taiwan TFETP salary and vacancy count pulled, both official pages unreadable.

18 SEPEPIK floor corrected from 2.35M to 2.2M KRW. Edition 4 found Level 2 starts at 2.2M, and 2.35M is its top.

18 SEPJET row now reads Fall 2026, because it had not opened on 17 Sep, and €22,400 becomes €22,500 at the ECB rate of 16 Sep.

23 SEPJET 2027 opened 21 Sep and closes 13 Nov, 11:59pm HST. Row moves to LIVE WIRE and the link now points at the year-specific US timeline page. Every euro figure recomputed at ECB rates of 22 Sep. EPIK, JET, Fulbright and the ECB re-read at source.

30 SEPJET and EPIK rows re-read at source for Edition 5. No local-currency figure changed.

30 SEPSweep of Issue 005. Every euro figure on the board recomputed at the ECB reference rates published 29 Sep 2026, so JET moves from €22,300 to €22,500, Korea from €1,415–1,800 to €1,430–1,820, Vietnam from €1,045–1,745 to €1,055–1,760, Thailand from €660–1,450 to €655–1,445 and Hong Kong from €3,900–7,545 to €3,935–7,615. EPIK’s salary page re-read and confirmed to run 2.2M to 2.8M KRW, with Level 3 not being hired.

Editor’s note

The Hire Wire exists because TEFL job hunting runs on rumour. Edition 5 is the deadline desk, because two windows close inside a week: HMRC’s Self Assessment registration on 5 October and the Fulbright France competition on 6 October. Behind them, JET is open until 13 November, and readers asked us after Edition 4 to go deeper on how programmes are actually applied to. So Jess takes the JET required documents list apart line by line, names the trap in each row, and sets the EPIK, TAPIF and NALCAP lines beside it, with the honest note that two of those pages were not re-read this fortnight. We check programme pages, ministry notices and government boards, print the date we checked them, and correct a line in place when a source moves, including when the source was us. Katie’s own teaching experience in Zambia and Abu Dhabi keeps the briefing focused on what a teacher needs to act on next.

Work in a careers service? There is a page here for you.

Nobody in a careers office has time to track thirty ministry calendars, and there is no reason they should. That is the job this briefing does, and it is free. The institutions page explains how every figure is checked, who writes it, what we sell, and why none of that is hidden.

It also carries wording you can paste onto a resources page in a minute, and free deadline alerts by region so no student of yours hears about a closing date two months late.

Our commercial interest, stated plainly

The TEFL Institute earns its living selling TEFL qualifications, which means we have something to gain if you decide to train. You should weigh what you read here in that light. What we will not do is bend the reporting to suit it: the vacancies, pay figures and closing dates come from the programmes themselves, they are not conditional on buying a course from us, and where a scheme is not worth applying for we say so.
