What will I learn?
Our 120-Hour Advanced TEFL Course has been designed to offer you a fast-track certification to train to be an English teacher in the UK and then take it all over the world or in classrooms online. You’ll need to have at least 120 hours of TEFL tuition at your disposal to get jobs and pick up a good salary either here in the UK or abroad. We make it easy to train and qualify as a new TEFL teacher in as little as four weeks.
Our online TEFL course is meant to be engaging and flexible regarding your studies. We’ve packed it full of videos and interactive quizzes to give you all the information. The only thing that you’ll need to do is complete the 120-hour course using your command of the English Language – we recommend a C1 level of proficiency – and a device which can access the learning platform. Did we mention our courses are award-winning, by the way?
We know that you can’t wait to embark on a journey which gives you a qualification that’s not only fully accredited but will last you a lifetime. You’ll get a first-class education in English as a foreign language.
Your prospective employers can use the employer certification page to check your qualifications and authenticate them, which helps to put their minds to rest about your skills. We’ve made the course fully accessible from any device, but you’d be wise to download our TEFL app – the first of its kind, available 24/7.
Course Content
The 120-hour course is broken up into ten modules taught through a mixed selection of audio, video and text formats. You will learn about things like grammar and structure, how to plan a lesson, and how to instruct and guide people in proper conversation. At the end of the course, you’ll have a complete education on how to teach English in an engaging and practical way.
We believe that whether you’ve got one student or a classroom full of them, the online TEFL course you complete should prepare you for any situation.
Typically, you’ll spend 2-4 weeks studying to get the course completed and pick up your new TEFL certificate. However, we recognise that not everybody has four weeks to do the course, which is why we offer you six months to complete your learning at whatever speed you see fit. There is no need to rush – it’s important you absorb the information and develop your skills.

Module Two: How to Understand and Use Grammatical & Teaching Terminology
Once you have completed the second module, you will be able to understand different types of grammar and be able to differentiate between the nuances of the English language in order to teach effectively. You’ll be confident with grammatical terms, but the official examination won’t be until a little bit later for this module because we know how intimidating grammar can be.
Module Three: How to Plan Your Syllabus & Lessons
Being able to plan and construct a syllabus will help you to be the best teacher you can be. During this module, you will learn the different planning techniques that will help you create lessons to encourage your students to follow the syllabus. You will also be able to ensure that your lessons are run properly and how to gain the respect and support of your learners, which will help with improving your reputation.

1-3 Modules One-Three:
Module Four: How to Teach Grammar
Now that you have been instructed in grammatical terms, you will get a module on how to teach it to students. We will instruct you on how to identify the English level of your students and then fit the lessons around grammar to suit the ability of your pupils.
You will also get helpful information about how to prepare engaging lessons that teach the building blocks of grammar to your students. Watching them learn and grow is one of the most encouraging things any teacher can witness.
Module Five: How to Teach Vocabulary
In the fifth module, you will learn how to teach vocabulary. Did you know that there are roughly 171,000 words in the English language? Thankfully, you will only be teaching a few hundred of those to your students. Ranging from simple everyday words and phrases to more complicated business talk, you will be given the tools to help effectively study and teach vocabulary to your students. Not only that, you will help them to recognise the correct context to use words and phrases.
Module Six: How to Teach Pronunciation
Module six in the course is all about teaching students to learn how to pronounce words. Pronunciation is a core part of speaking English, and they will look to you as a role model during this part of their education.
With that in mind, you will be instructed on how to teach pronunciation in the correct way, as well as what tools and strategies you can use to make sure that students are grasping the sometimes complicated pronunciation of words that we use in the English language all the time.

4-6 Modules Four-Six:
Module Seven: How to Teach Reading & Listening Skills
In this module, we learn all about receptive skills. These are important skills to learn because the student is receiving language. By the end of the lesson, you will learn all about how to engage students in learning how to read and write English. The best way to do this is often things like tasks involving music and radio, right the way through to using emails. We will also teach you how to expand lessons outside the classroom by challenging students to use social media in creative ways to practice English.
Module Eight: How to teach Writing & Speaking Skills
The next skills on the list are called productive skills because students produce the language that they are speaking. You will learn lots of different strategies for encouraging students to stand up and start talking in a new language. Not only that, but you will help them to find the confidence to learn to write English at all levels, ranging from simple sentences to stories about their favourite pets or analysing a drawing.
Module Nine: How to Teach English for Specific Purposes
All of your students will have a specific reason why they have chosen to start learning English as a foreign language. You will learn how to help them differentiate between one reason and another, and you will also learn how to design specific lessons to help each student achieve their goals.
For example, you will learn how to teach children to communicate in basic English for the sake of starting their journey but also learn how teenagers will need to prepare for the next chapter in their lives by speaking English with more confidence and in a more advanced way.
Module Ten: How to Move from Learning to Earning
In the final module of the course, you will learn all about the employment market for a new TEFL teacher in the UK or abroad. Once you have managed to get your first job, you’ll learn about how to improve your current skill level, how to move between jobs, and what the world is looking for when it comes to new English teachers.

Accreditation
The accrediting body for our Level 5 TEFL Course is Highfield Qualifications. This particular qualification is for people who have either little or no experience teaching English, but it’s also very useful for people who have previous experience teaching but require a formal qualification to show employers that they are trained.
The great thing about this certification is that you get a certificate you can use to secure teaching positions all over the world and help you with applying for permits to work. Alternatively, you can also use it to seek employment right here in the UK. If you want a more general overview, then we definitely recommend looking at the Highfield Level 5 Certificate in Teaching as a Foreign Language (TEFL). You can also look at the Ofqual website to verify Highfield’s status.
The Open and Distance Learning Quality Council is an organisation which was first founded in 1969. The mission of this group is to improve the quantity of training and education offered to learners. It also serves to safeguard their interests. The Council has created a series of guidelines which aim to preserve quality, and any distance learning provider who meets the standards laid down by the organisation can apply for accreditation.
The Vital Consular is a little bit different to other types of accreditation.
You see, the TEFL Institute is a fully verified provider. This means that any of the courses you study with us are going to be fit for purpose when you want to take them abroad and use them in other countries. This specific verification scheme means that we have had all of our graduates recognised by the UK government as official TEFL teachers. This means that when they try and apply for permits to work overseas, and they have to get those qualifications verified, as is the case with places like Korea or China, then this part of the process is taken care of.
Naturally, as a provider recognised around the world for our courses, our team works around the clock to deliver a comprehensive series of government-accredited courses that you can study at your convenience. All of the contents and materials used in the courses have been regulated and approved by the UK government, so you can be sure of the authenticity.
