Course Content

Teaching Business English is a specialised form of teaching the language that focuses on business terminology and related topics and corporate culture. It is often taught onsite to large companies’ employees, but you could even teach private English classes or Business English online.

1-3 Modules One-Three:

Module One: How to Make Sense of Teacher/Learner Needs

Understanding your students’ language abilities and why they want to learn English. Get to know the basic principles behind teaching business English.

Module Two: How to Plan your Syllabus

Being the best teacher you can be is down to planning. In this course, you’ll get the planning techniques that will save you time and ensure that your lessons run smoothly. You’ll gain students’ respect which, of course, is excellent for reviews (especially if you are teaching online).

Module Three: Developing Business Lessons and Resources

Once you have grasped how to plan your learner-specific syllabus, you will want to learn how to develop the content for your business English classes. Discover what tools and resources work best when teaching English for workplace communications.
4-5 Modules Four-Five:

Module Four: How to Teach Business Speaking Skills

Speaking and writing are called ‘Productive skills’ because students produce language. You’ll learn plenty of valuable ideas about how to get your professional students up on their feet and confidently give presentations or negotiate deals on video calls.

Module Five: How to Teach Business Writing Skills

You will gather plenty of useful activities to help you to teach your students to write English – at all levels, from emails to contracts and video call Q&A comments to reports.
6-7 Modules Six-Seven:

Module Six: Be a Culturally Aware Teacher

Do you say phrases in your community that wouldn’t make sense to someone from abroad? Learn how to help your students understand their culture and identify, and cope with, cultural differences when working with international clients and suppliers.

Module Seven: Teaching English for Niche Topics

Here you will learn about teaching English for specific purposes, or ESP for short. This is important for people who need to use particular vocabulary and skills for employment or education. By becoming a specialist teacher in a niche area of English, you can earn more money than most.

Accreditation

Highfields Qualifications:

The TEFL Institute offers a Level 5 course, which is usually run in tandem with this one – it is accredited by Highfield Qualifications. They provide accreditation for the Level 5 course, and this course is meant for people who have either little or no teaching experience or those who have previous experience but need a formal qualification. This qualification is recognised around the world and is useful for securing teaching positions, visas and other forms of employment relating to the TEFL industry. We recommend taking a look at the Highfield Level 5 Certificate in Teaching as a Foreign Language for a general overview of the units. You can also visit the Ofqual website to verify that Highfield is an accrediting provider.

The Accreditation Council for Distance Learning

The ACDL – Accreditation Council for Distance Learning – is an accrediting body which focuses exclusively on distance learning providers and works to ensure that there is a significant standard of excellence among providers, many of whom bear the seal of approval the ACDL offers. The Vital Consular:

So, what is this verification seal, and why is it different from seeking an accreditation? Well, we’re a verified TEFL provider here in the UK. The Vital Consular is a verification scheme that ensures that a qualification is recognised by the UK government. This means that all certificates issued by the scheme can be used to get a work permit overseas.

If the certificate you have isn’t legitimised by the UK Government, then you won’t make it past the first round of checks. What is TEFL?

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It is primarily teaching non-native speakers English without the use of translation. This means you won’t need to know their first language. TEFL teachers will need the knowledge and know-how of the methodologies to teach this way. This is why teachers must first complete a TEFL course and gain the qualification. TEFL is widely used to teach English online in one-to-one or small group scenarios or to teach English abroad and is sometimes even used as an easier way to travel.

Who can do a TEFL course?

First and foremost, aspiring TEFL teachers must be outgoing and confident, and not afraid to make themselves look a little silly, especially when teaching children. Expression is a huge part of the methodologies to get your point across. You’ll warm up to this in time, and it all takes practice.

We suggest people be at least 17 with a C1 level of English or higher. If you’re not sure, we have a free English test. We also would recommend people who work on their own initiative as it is an online course and you will need to be your own motivation.

What do I need to teach online?

If you have no experience in teaching online, a good idea is to get some teaching practice in, as they may ask for “experience” hours, which are unpaid. You can alternatively complete our 10-hour Methodologies course, which has a section focused on teaching English online.

Most online companies will ask for your TEFL certificate, teaching practice, accessibility to good WiFi, a laptop or other computer devices, and headphones. Some online companies may ask their teachers also to have a Bachelor’s Degree. This is evident in Chinese online companies, as it is a government regulation (no matter where you live).

How are the courses laid out?

Our courses contain content, videos, podcasts, reflective tasks, and tests. They are online courses and can be completed independently and from home.

Our specialist courses are much shorter than the main TEFL qualifications. They are all completed online and in your own time. All tests are done online and corrected instantly. They have course content and tests throughout the course. They can be completed before or after the main TEFL qualification.

Are the courses accredited?

Is this course completely online? How flexible is this course?

All courses are done online, and no travelling is required for the tests. Except for the 10-hour Virtual training, you can log on anytime. I had an excellent experience with The TEFL Institute whilst completing my 180 Hour Diploma and learnt so much. There was a broad focus on both face-to-face and online teaching. This made the course useful for different settings. The in-depth study of the various lesson structures has equipped me to plan lessons accordingly. Plus, throughout the modules, the amount of additional websites offered really helped to point me in the right direction, most of which would use in the future.My tutor, Laura Graham, was easily available when I needed to communicate with her and she was extremely quick to assess my work. She gave clear positive feedback and provided ongoing support and encouragement. I felt very confident in Laura as a tutor. She was always more than happy to advise. Laura was so easy to converse and so friendly. There were occasions when Laura responded to my queries late at night when I did not think i would get a reply until the next day. She most definitely is not a 9-5 tutor. When I had been having difficulty with the platform, without hesitation, she added additional time. It was so clear that Laura is dedicated to her role and I really appreciated this.When I needed to freeze my course, the institute was so accommodating and did so without question and without charge. Such a fantastic course that puts theory into practice in a way that is fun and meaningful. Yesterday I finished my 10 hour Virtual TEFL course (with teaching practice) and, even though I was pretty anxious at first (what with it being online and with people I knew nothing about), it went amazing!Michelle Benson is a wonderful teacher and a wonderful human being, and you can actually feel how much she loves her job and her passion for it!So yeah, this was a 10/10 and I would 100% recommend this course to you if you want to get a taste of how teaching could feel like ^^PS: wish the course could've been longer, I'm already missing Michelle and all of my classmates, they were simply wonderful

As part of a hybrid 180 hour diploma, I did a 10 hour practicum course with TEFL institute. Not only was did the short two days of learning provide us with all the basics for effective teaching methodology, it was also just such a blast; a rewarding time all-around. The 10 hour practicum course is an incredibly fun and educational add-on to any certificate or TEFL journey in general, I think. Michelle Benson, our instructor for these classes, was very experienced, patient, and knowledgeable. She made the classes feel approachable and super entertaining. It’s apparent that the TEFL team is full of genuinely passionate professionals, and Michelle is no exception! You’d be surprised how quickly you feel like you start to get to know people in these short courses too! I feel so much more encouraged to keep learning so that I can apply more and more knowledge, using the skills I learned here, in teaching.

I purchased the 310 hour course and completed the TEFL 180 hour Level 5 course through the TEFL Institute. I am continuing to work on the additional courses. The material for the 180 hour course was comprehensive and relevant. I especially appreciated links noted in lessons to websites useful for future lesson material. When I contacted the TEFL Institute with a concern or question, my tutor responded quickly and the issue resolved. Also, the general webinars on TEFL teaching have been very helpful as I move forward as a TEFL teacher. I choose the TEFL Institute after a comparison of the top TEFL schools and visiting the school websites. The TEFL Institute website, for me, was sensibly laid out, the information was straight forward and overall not too "busy". When I contacted the school requesting a phone call, the call was scheduled, the staff member was friendly and my questions were answered. A caveat is the time frame for completing the entire course; it is short and I struggled due to obligations and unexpected events. I purchased a time extension but there should be more time allotted.
