What is a TEFL teacher?

Let’s start with the most basic question concerning TEFL as you weigh up whether it’s worth your time doing a TEFL Course and that is, what is a TEFL teacher? A TEFL Teacher is someone who teaches English as a foreign language (TEFL) to adults and children whose first or main language is not English.

A TEFL teacher is someone who has achieved the certificate by doing the minimum of 120 hours required in a TEFL course and are qualified to teach English either online, within a public or private school or at a language school. If you only do the minimum of 120 hours, then you will only be allowed to teach adults. If you want the flexibility to able to teach children also, then you either have to achieve a Level 5 TEFL qualification or take our additional 30-hour Young Learners module.

By doing the 180 Hour Government Regulated Level 5 TEFL course, you will be furthering your career options and increasing your salary expectations. You will be a strong candidate for the most competitive TEFL jobs around the world, this includes working in native English-speaking countries. The Level 5 TEFL Certificate is considered the same standard as the CELTA & Trinity Cert TESOL qualification.
