The TEFL Institute is pleased to be able to offer a 30-hour Teaching Business English course for our students who want to improve their skills. Business English is a niche area to specialise in, which will help a lot with earning potential because teachers for this subject are in high demand in businesses worldwide. You can work online from your home in South Africa or go abroad and teach onsite.

Teaching Business English as a subject will require you to get a TEFL or TESOL certification and have either a business background or the Teaching Business English qualification we offer.

What will I learn

Business English is a specialist area within the TEFL industry – it isn’t covered in any of our normal qualifications and is something you must do in addition to other qualifications. This qualification gives you greater earning potential because most TEFL teachers don’t have the necessary skills.

English fluency is a skill that workplaces like for their staff. However, business English is a bit more specialist and complicated. Therefore, as businesses are looking to expand their horizons by taking services and products to the global stage, they are looking for professionals to come in and teach everyone business English. As a TEFL teacher, you can pick jobs with this.

Once you’ve finished our 30-hour course, you will have a skill set that will improve your reputation and earning potential. Not only will you be able to work online from your home in South Africa, but you can also work in person. This qualification is suitable for schools and businesses so that you can get a job with a language school or you can work directly with a company.

Course Content

Business English is a niche subject, and the content you teach will be specific to business culture. Therefore, you must understand the terminology and how it relates to your learners. You can work online and in person with this qualification.

If you want to teach this course content, you need to have a TEFL or TESOL qualification, an authentic Teaching Business English certification or a recognized business background.

  • 1-3 Modules One-Three:

Module One: How to Make Sense of Teacher/Learner Needs

The first module in the course will help you understand language abilities and why people want to learn English. We also give you a basic Business English education and show you how to teach it as a course.

Module Two: How to Plan your Syllabus

The second module in the course is where you learn about effective teaching and planning skills. You will learn about working from a syllabus and how to use different planning techniques to make a lesson suited to that aspect of the course.

Module Three: Developing Business Lessons and Resources

The third module of the course follows from the second in that now that you’ve learned how to work with a syllabus, we get into the specific details of designing lessons for Business English. We teach you all about what tools and resources are on offer and how you can design specific lessons for key workplace communication and terminology.

  • 4-5 Modules Four-Five:

Module Four: How to Teach Business Speaking Skills

The fourth module of the course teaches you about productive skills- skills used to make language – in this case, speaking. You will learn how your lessons can help students communicate properly and how their confidence can be improved thanks to extra tasks they can do outside the classroom with tools readily available. Podcasts, radio, and video games are all tools in your toolkit that help you connect with students.

Module Five: How to Teach Business Writing Skills

Our fifth module will explore business writing skills, which are another part of our productive skills. Students will learn how to write and communicate at every business level, from casual emails to reports that may benefit the business.

  • 6-7 Modules Six-Seven:

Module Six: Be a Culturally Aware Teacher

Teachers must be culturally aware of their classroom, regardless of how they work – whether online from South Africa or in person. You will learn how to understand culture and how it connects to business and gain skills to be a culturally aware and respectful teacher.

Module Seven: Teaching English for Niche Topics

The final module of the course talks about ESP – English for a Specific Purpose. In this module, you’ll learn all about ESP, how it works, and what it means for you to thrive as a teacher. You’ll learn how to improve your teaching skills and your earning potential as a provider.

Accreditation

Highfields Qualifications

The 30-hour Teaching Business English course is usually completed in tandem with our Level 5 180-hour TEFL course, and that qualification is supported, accredited and approved by Highfield Qualifications. The group works with Ofqual, a regulator in the UK and is the gold standard for accreditations.

Don’t worry about the details, though. Even though this is a UK regulator, their accreditation is good globally, and you can use the qualification anywhere in the world. We suggest people incorporate it into their resume when searching for a job or visa. If you need more information, then you can look at the Ofqual website or take a look at the Highfield Level 5 Certificate in Teaching as a Foreign Language.

The Accreditation Council for Distance Learning

The Accreditation Council for Distance Learning is a provider that has worked hard to build a reputation in the US as a recognised accreditor of distance learning. Providers who work hard and follow their guidelines can get accreditation. We’ve managed to earn accreditation from these wonderful folks, and our accreditation entry is 2854-2540.

The Vital Consular:

The Vital Consular is not an accreditation but rather a verification process. As a TEFL provider in the UK, we are fully verified and authenticated. We have worked hard to earn this accolade and are proud of what we have achieved. You can take any of the courses we offer and go anywhere worldwide to start a career, or you can work online from your home in South Africa. The qualification is valid for entry into other countries. The Vital Consular is different from this process. It is a scheme through which the UK government approves every course we offer. It’s a special verification that most providers don’t have.

This qualification is vital if you try to work in places like Taiwan or China. These places specifically require you to authenticate your documents when you apply for a visa or a work permit. The scheme is useful because the British Government is a recognised body, and their approval helps you get the visa. If you don’t have an authentic qualification, you may struggle with finding one – we help save you the trouble of doing that.

Our academic team is one of the finest in the world and has secured us a position as a globally recognised TEFL provider. We work around the clock to deliver accreditations and verifications that you can use to get the career you need.

Why Us

At the TEFL Institute, we are heavily committed to the people we work with. We strive to deliver a course that you can use to expand your horizons and build the career you deserve. Our team connects people with the qualifications they need to start a career, and we consider you part of the family. From the moment you work with us, we’re here for you, so we’ll do our best to deliver support and help from graduation to finding your first job.

Our Core Principles

Passion –  It doesn’t matter how many graduates go through our courses; we support each one similarly. We’ve remained passionate about what we do and how we do it – you won’t find anyone more committed than us, and we’re proud to work in the way we do.

Genuine & Committed—As providers, we work tirelessly to ensure our students get the support they need. We are committed to delivering them a qualification that will set them up for whatever career they want. We work constantly to maintain that goal and offer ongoing help to keep you on track.

Partnership & Collaboration – Our work worldwide has enabled us to build partnerships and collaborations that help us deliver winning support and service to our learners and provide them with opportunities once they graduate. We can help you build a career that works for you.

Integrity – We believe in integrity at every level and work hard to ensure you get the support and tools you need for success. No matter what we aim to do, we do so according to high standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TEFL?

TEFL is an acronym for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Your responsibilities as a TEFL teacher will be to make sure that non-native English speakers can read, write and speak English confidently with no translation tools.

Who can do a TEFL course?

Anyone can complete our TEFL courses. The only minimum requirement we ask that you have is a C1 level of proficiency in English and a device to access the online platform.

What do I need to teach online?

You need teaching experience if you’re going to work online, and it can be important to evidence this experience. You can volunteer to get experience or sign up for our methodologies teaching course – it’ll help with your overall growth.

Most providers will ask for qualifications, a laptop, and a stable internet connection. You may also need a degree, but most jobs don’t.

How are the courses laid out?

Our courses combine written material with photo, audio, and video content. You can learn however you choose; we make it as flexible as possible. It is important to acknowledge that students learn in different ways, and you need to accommodate them. How you choose to learn is your decision—you can work abroad and learn or start your course at home in South Africa.

Our specialist courses—like our Business English qualification—are designed to support existing primary certifications, such as the 120-hour or 180-hour courses.

Are the courses accredited?

We have received full ACDL accreditation, and our Level 5 180-hour course is regulated and approved by Ofqual.

Is this course completely online? How flexible is this course?

Any of the courses which we offer can be completed online and done fully remotely. You don’t have to travel to complete any of the tests associated with your course. As an online provider, you can access your course at any point to complete the modules. However, there are certain qualifications that have 10-hour virtual training schemes for key parts of the course. These will be run at specific times, and it will be your responsibility to attend to them.

With all this being said, we have designed the courses to be as flexible as possible. You have six months to complete your course but you can have a deadline extension if necessary.

Just finished the 10 hour virtual course with Michelle Benson and I have to say it was amazing. From the start Michelle made us all feel relax and comfortable, She explained exactly what the course would entail and made sure we had fun doing it. Michelle creates a great sense of teamwork with her students, and it shows in how we all interacted with each other. There was no such thing as a silly question and if you didn't understand anything Michelle would find a way to help you. I really enjoyed the whole experience I would recommend the 10 hour virtual course with Michelle to anyone thinking of doing TEFL. Thank you so much for the learning experience and the fun Michelle.

I recently partook in the "10 Hour Virtual Teaching Practice" with Michelle Benson, a member of the TEFL Tutor team. Her energy and positivity throughout the 2 day course was phenomenal. The classroom started off as 9 strangers, but by the end of it, we felt more like old friends from college. Truly an enjoyable experience, not to mention the valuable teaching practice we each got to do too. Highly recommend this course to anyone interested. Thank you to Michelle and co. for being so delightful. Tadhg Middleton.

I chose to do the 180hr TEFL course to get the most out of it. It was chalk full of useful information, from grammar, to lesson plans to class room management. The layout was clear and the information presented in a well thought out manner. Overall definitely a useful course to do, the scariest thing was to start as it seemed to be so huge and overwhelming but if you do a little bit every day, it'll be over in no time :)

I recently signed up for the Level 5 Diploma and I must say that it’s comprehensive, condensed and well-structured. There are plenty of learning materials and links to external websites, which enhance knowledge of the subject. There is everything you need to complete the quizzes and assessments, with tutor support and help on Discord when you are in difficulty.I did the 10hr Methodologies Course with Michelle Benson, and she was really encouraging. She demonstrated how to conduct a lesson, took us through a foreign language lesson and gave us numerous tips from her own experience. Everyone in the online class got to do 5 minutes teaching practice and she provided feedback after each person’s turn.I would definitely recommend the TEFL courses to anyone looking into teaching English to people of other languages.
