Here at the TEFL Institute, we offer a 30-hour Teaching Business English course which is designed to help you grow and succeed and unlock new opportunities for growth as a teacher. It is worth noting that when it comes to business English, it is a valuable skill to be able to add to your CV because it will help you to boost your earning potential and expand your horizons. You can work from a selection of different locations, including your home in the Netherlands or abroad,

If you want to teach business English, you’ll need to have either a TEFL or TESOL qualification, or have a background in business to ensure you can teach the right way. However, most people will find that the qualification we offer will do the job.

What will I learn

The first thing you need to know about business English is that it is a specialist area within the TEFL industry. It’s not something we cover in our normal courses, but you need to be aware that you have to do it alongside other qualifications. It is a qualification which massively increases your earning potential.

Most companies like it when their staff are fluent in English. You’ll be in high demand as more and more companies start to look for opportunities to improve their global appeal via business English, because they need professionals to help teach it. That’s where you come in. We offer a 30-hour course which helps you to be able to boost your earning and reputation.

Course Content

It should come as a surprise to anyone that business English is a highly niche subject, and therefore the content that you teach to people will be in high demand because not everyone can offer this course. However, you will be tasked with understanding how business English relates to your learners. The good news is you can do this in-person or online. If you have a business background, then you can get the qualification to formalise your experiences or you can just get straight into studying.

  • 1-3 Modules One-Three:

Module One: How to Make Sense of Teacher/Learner Needs

The first module of the course will see us cover some of the different needs a learner might have and why they want to learn business English specifically. You’ll get a basic understanding of business English and how to teach it too.

Module Two: How to Plan your Syllabus

In the second module of the course, we provide an education about working from a syllabus and help you learn how to use different planning tools to make a lesson which is geared towards each aspect of the course.

Module Three: Developing Business Lessons and Resources

In the third module, we follow on from the last module by taking a proper look at the specifics behind designing lessons in business English and how to build different tools for teaching. We will go over things like how you can build specific lessons for different subjects and how to do things like teach workplace communication and terminology

  • 4-5 Modules Four-Five:

Module Four: How to Teach Business Speaking Skills

In this fourth module which is basically the midway point of the course, we get into learning about productive skills and how they tie specifically into business English. These skills form the basis of learning and in this module specifically we focus on speaking and how vital it can be. Your students need to learn how to communicate in an effective way, and this can be difficult.

However, we’re here to help with this by showing you how you can use everyday tools and resources to help with your lessons.

Module Five: How to Teach Business Writing Skills

The fifth module will take you through how to teach business writing skills. These are a core part of a business skill set. Students will learn how to write at every level of business, ranging from casual corporate emails to writing reports.

  • 6-7 Modules Six-Seven:

Module Six: Be a Culturally Aware Teacher

Teachers are encouraged to be aware of the culture within their classroom, and in business English, this is very critical. We help you to identify how best to be a culturally aware and sensitive teacher, so you can grow and thrive.

Module Seven: Teaching English for Niche Topics

In the final module of the course, we talk about ESP, which is how to teach English for specific purposes. Within this module, we take a proper look at what ESP is, how it works, and how you can thrive as a teacher. You will learn how to use the skill to actively grow and thrive.

Accreditation

Highfields Qualifications

This course is normally done as a supplement for our 180-hour Level 5 TEFL Diploma, which is accredited by Highfield Qualifications. They are a provider which works with Ofqual to deliver a quality education and their accreditation means a lot. If you need more information about what is on offer, then you can look at the Ofqual website or take a look at the Highfield Level 5 Certificate in Teaching as a Foreign Language.

The Accreditation Council for Distance Learning

The Accreditation Council for Distance Learning is a provider who specialises in delivering distance learning verification. They work for the benefit of all distance learners, and anyone who feels confident about the quality of their services is welcome to submit for accreditation. We are happy that we have been able to secure accreditation, and have a number of 2854-2540.

The Vital Consular:

So, it is worth understanding that this is not a specific accreditation that a business can get so much as a verification seal. We’ve worked really hard to be an accredited provider in the UK, and the qualifications that we offer can be taken all over the world and used where you want to go. However, what providers like us can do is register for this optional verification seal that gets everything we do approved by the UK government.

With this in mind, if you try and go somewhere like Taiwan or China, you will be expected to verify the qualifications that you have. If they’re not or authenticated by a recognised body, then they won’t count towards applying for a permit or visa. And well worth taking the time to get this particular verification and we are proud to have done so. Our team has worked tirelessly to make sure that you get the quality you deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TEFL?

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It is primarily teaching non-native speakers English without the use of translation. This means you won’t need to know their first language. TEFL teachers will need the knowledge and know-how of the methodologies to teach this way. This is why teachers must first complete a TEFL course and gain the qualification. TEFL is widely used to teach English online in one-to-one or small group scenarios or to teach English abroad and is sometimes even used as an easier way to travel.

Who can do a TEFL course?

First and foremost, aspiring TEFL teachers must be outgoing and confident, and not afraid to make themselves look a little silly, especially when teaching children. Expression is a huge part of the methodologies to get your point across. You’ll warm up to this in time, and it all takes practice.

We suggest people be at least 17 with a C1 level of English or higher. If you’re not sure, we have a free English test. We also would recommend people who work on their own initiative as it is an online course and you will need to be your own motivation.

What do I need to teach online?

If you have no experience in teaching online, a good idea is to get some teaching practice in, as they may ask for “experience” hours, which are unpaid. You can alternatively complete our 10-hour Methodologies course, which has a section focused on teaching English online.

Most online companies will ask for your TEFL certificate, teaching practice, accessibility to good WiFi, a laptop or other computer devices, and headphones. Some online companies may ask their teachers also to have a Bachelor’s Degree. This is evident in Chinese online companies, as it is a government regulation (no matter where you live).

How are the courses laid out?

Our courses contain content, videos, podcasts, reflective tasks, and tests. They are online courses and can be completed independently and from home.

Our specialist courses are much shorter than the main TEFL qualifications. They are all completed online and in your own time. All tests are done online and corrected instantly. They have course content and tests throughout the course. They can be completed before or after the main TEFL qualification.

Are the courses accredited?

The TEFL Institute is fully accredited by ACDL. Our 180-hour Level OFQUAL regulates 5 TEFL courses.

Is this course completely online? How flexible is this course?

All courses are done online, and no travelling is required for the tests. Except for the 10-hour Virtual training, you can log on anytime. This is to ensure that our TEFL courses can be done during work or other studies. There is a 6-month deadline for the courses, but you can contact us for extensions.

I cannot recommend The TEFL Institute of Ireland enough for anyone interested in entering the world of English language teaching . The courses are accessible, easy to follow, convey exactly what is necessary, and highly varied, allowing anyone to find their speciality in this field .On par with this however, the institution is exceptionally helpful, patient, and has plenty of useful advice should issues arise during study or job searching. Jessica in particular has been indispensable in my own endeavours.

I recently completed the 180-hr TEFL Diploma + 30-hr Business English module. Throughout the course I regularly sought advice, receiving superb support from Laura Graham. Towards the end of the Diploma, I made contact with Jessica Jeffery, who gave me expert guidance on preparing to teach TEFL. Whatever question I posed, she provided answers and solutions. These TEFL support people were at all times very friendly, ever-helpful, and all in quick response time. A warm and personal touch!

Overall, I enjoyed and was determined to gain my TEFL Certificate. I liked learning about the different ways of learning English in person and online, learning about different types of ways to teach students like using realia, for example ,and learning about how to write lesson plans. Initially, I found learning to write the lesson plans annoying and irritating, but eventually, I found that to be one of the most rewarding parts of the course. Being able to write a lesson plan helps one go in with a plan to help guide and teach students the English language. I see the emphasis on learning to write lesson plans during the course to be a very insightful idea on the part of TEFL Institute of Ireland. It builds confidence, gives one an idea on how to conduct a lesson, and builds a foundation on which to start from. The cons I had with the TEFL Institute of Ireland is that there were either spelling, grammar, or punctuation mistakes, certain lessons could not be confirmed to be completed because the arrow button was grayed out, and lastly, the assessments take way too long to complete because there were about 20 - 30 questions in one assessment and they were all open-ended. I think that they could have chosen for students to have half the number of assessment questions (10 - 15 questions) or could have made some of them multiple choice.Mr. John Curry spoke to me in the beginning when I was getting ready to start the TEFL Certification course and the recommendations he gave to me were helpful. Also, during the "How to change your career in 2026 with TEFL Certification" Zoom Webinar, Mr. Curry's explanation of his experience and the job related information was confidence-building and encouraging.I am grateful for the benefits I have received from being receiving my TEFL Certification from the TEFL Institute of Ireland.

Michelle Benson was an excellent instructor, as she has a bubbly personality and a wealth of experience in the area.
