When you arrive, our in-country team will greet you along with the other interns (unless you are required to complete a quarantine). After the one-week orientation, you’ll travel to your placement area by bus, train, or plane.

You will learn about Vietnamese culture, language, and society at orientation, as well as build friendships with other teachers over the welcome meal. Visits to a farm for a Vietnamese cooking class, the Cu Chi tunnels used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, and visits to local museums that bring the country’s history to life have all been previous cultural excursions.

Master the local greetings, become acquainted with the local customs (including the key no-nos), put your TEFL abilities to the test, meet new people, and eat, a lot! It’s time to begin teaching English in Vietnam, whether at a private language school, a private primary or secondary school, or a government school.

Interns have been placed in cities all across the world in the past! As a fast-developing country, interactive whiteboards and digital tools are becoming more frequent in private language school classes. Public schools have larger class sizes and less technology than private schools, but they make up for it with high levels of student engagement.

Keep in mind that Vietnamese schools range in size from thousands of pupils in urban institutions to fewer than 100 students in rural primary schools.

You can expect to work 35 hours per week teaching conversational English. This equates to 3-4 classes each day, 5-6 days per week, for a total of 1825 hours of active teaching. You’ll have plenty of time to plan your next favourite backup lesson!

Congratulations, you did it! Be sure to congratulate yourself on your accomplishment. It’s time to choose whether you want to see more of Vietnam, travel, or teach (or both).

By renewing your contract, you may be able to extend your stay in Vietnam and teach for a longer period of time. As a confident and experienced TEFL teacher, your options are limitless.

What our teachers say

Niamh

After my final year exams, I really didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life but I knew I wanted to go traveling again. So I completed the TEFL course, saw there was an internship in Vietnam offered and booked onto it straight away. Coming to Vietnam has probably been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

I recently completed the 180-hr TEFL Diploma + 30-hr Business English module. Throughout the course I regularly sought advice, receiving superb support from Laura Graham. Towards the end of the Diploma, I made contact with Jessica Jeffery, who gave me expert guidance on preparing to teach TEFL. Whatever question I posed, she provided answers and solutions. These TEFL support people were at all times very friendly, ever-helpful, and all in quick response time. A warm and personal touch!

Overall, I enjoyed and was determined to gain my TEFL Certificate. I liked learning about the different ways of learning English in person and online, learning about different types of ways to teach students like using realia, for example ,and learning about how to write lesson plans. Initially, I found learning to write the lesson plans annoying and irritating, but eventually, I found that to be one of the most rewarding parts of the course. Being able to write a lesson plan helps one go in with a plan to help guide and teach students the English language. I see the emphasis on learning to write lesson plans during the course to be a very insightful idea on the part of TEFL Institute of Ireland. It builds confidence, gives one an idea on how to conduct a lesson, and builds a foundation on which to start from. The cons I had with the TEFL Institute of Ireland is that there were either spelling, grammar, or punctuation mistakes, certain lessons could not be confirmed to be completed because the arrow button was grayed out, and lastly, the assessments take way too long to complete because there were about 20 - 30 questions in one assessment and they were all open-ended. I think that they could have chosen for students to have half the number of assessment questions (10 - 15 questions) or could have made some of them multiple choice.Mr. John Curry spoke to me in the beginning when I was getting ready to start the TEFL Certification course and the recommendations he gave to me were helpful. Also, during the "How to change your career in 2026 with TEFL Certification" Zoom Webinar, Mr. Curry's explanation of his experience and the job related information was confidence-building and encouraging.I am grateful for the benefits I have received from being receiving my TEFL Certification from the TEFL Institute of Ireland.

I have just finished the 10 hour Advanced Certificate in TEFL Classroom Methodologies course. The course was excellent very informative, and I learned great strategies to use in the classroom. Michelle Benson was an excellent instructor, as she has a bubbly personality and a wealth of experience in the area. Michelle kept all the students engaged through interactive classes over the two days while maintaining a fun and relaxed learning environment. I would not hesitate to recommend this course!
