Overview
Every Vietnamese school understands and places great value on learning English. English is often regarded as the world’s universal working language, paving the way for an increasingly global economy and population. As a result, there has never been a greater demand for TEFL teachers in Vietnam. The country’s natural beauty and history make it a traveller’s dream come true.
With our paid TEFL internship, you’ll spend a year working alongside other teachers for an amazing experience. During your first week, you’ll learn about living, teaching, and travelling in Vietnam in a one-week orientation to ensure you get the most out of your TEFL experience. Our professional in-country team will be available to help you along the way. Prepare to build life long friendships with your new TEFL family!

What’s required before applying?
- Passport holder from one of the following countries: Ireland, UK, Canada, Australia, USA, or New Zealand
- Aged between 20 – 50 (contact an advisor if you're older)
- TEFL qualification (official hardcopy required)
- Bachelor’s degree (official hardcopy required)
- Clean criminal record (police certificate required)
- Clean bill of mental and physical health (contact an advisor if you're on medication and/or receiving ongoing treatment)
- Full vaccination against COVID-19 is recommended (contact an advisor if you're not vaccinated)
- Due to new labour regulations, non-native English speakers (including South Africans) need to provide a C1 English cert
What do I need to oraganise?
- International flights: Return flights are a must
- Police check: Each applicant must have a clean criminal record
- Budget: Spending money for your six weeks plus excursions etc
- Travel insurance: Comprehensive cover for travel & medical insurance
- Visa costs: Specific to each country & usually cost around £105-£125
- Legalisation of documents for your work permit requires an additional fee. This applies to UK-issued paperwork, so your TEFL certificate will need to be legalised in the UK. Ask us for advice on this but aim to budget between £200-£250.
Internship Eligibility Form
When you arrive, our in-country team will greet you along with the other interns (unless you are required to complete a quarantine). After the one-week orientation, you’ll travel to your placement area by bus, train, or plane.
You will learn about Vietnamese culture, language, and society at orientation, as well as build friendships with other teachers over the welcome meal. Visits to a farm for a Vietnamese cooking class, the Cu Chi tunnels used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, and visits to local museums that bring the country’s history to life have all been previous cultural excursions.
Master the local greetings, become acquainted with the local customs (including the key no-nos), put your TEFL abilities to the test, meet new people, and eat, a lot! It’s time to begin teaching English in Vietnam, whether at a private language school, a private primary or secondary school, or a government school.
Interns have been placed in cities all across the world in the past! As a fast-developing country, interactive whiteboards and digital tools are becoming more frequent in private language school classes. Public schools have larger class sizes and less technology than private schools, but they make up for it with high levels of student engagement.
Keep in mind that Vietnamese schools range in size from thousands of pupils in urban institutions to fewer than 100 students in rural primary schools.
You can expect to work 35 hours per week teaching conversational English. This equates to 3-4 classes each day, 5-6 days per week, for a total of 1825 hours of active teaching. You’ll have plenty of time to plan your next favourite backup lesson!

By renewing your contract, you may be able to extend your stay in Vietnam and teach for a longer period of time. As a confident and experienced TEFL teacher, your options are limitless.
