Every cohort of graduates tells us some version of the same story. You finish your TEFL course, you land your first placement, and within a fortnight you are drowning in prep work nobody warned you about: differentiating the same lesson for three ability levels, building a warmer from nothing because the coursebook one fell flat, or writing exam feedback for twenty-eight essays when you only budgeted time for ten.

One of our graduates teaching in Ho Chi Minh City told us she was regularly awake past midnight rewriting activities for a mixed-level class, because the materials she’d been handed assumed a uniform group that simply did not exist in her actual classroom. Why we built it as free, not as a paid add-on

Part of why we built tefl.ai the way we did comes down to cost. We could have made it a premium upsell.

We didn’t, because the entire point was removing a barrier, not adding a new one. New teachers are already paying for a course, a flight, sometimes a visa and often a deposit on somewhere to live. Charging them again for lesson-planning help would have defeated the purpose.
