Internship Eligibility Form

Check your Eligibility

When you arrive, our in-country team will greet you along with the other interns (unless you are required to complete a quarantine). After the one-week orientation, you’ll travel to your placement area by bus, train, or plane.

When you arrive, you’ll get a full week of cultural orientation.

You will learn about Japanese culture, language, and society at orientation, as well as build friendships with other teachers over the welcome meal. Visits to famous landmarks local museums that bring the country’s history to life have all been previous cultural excursions.

Master the local greetings, become acquainted with the local customs, put your TEFL abilities to the test, meet new people, and eat, a lot! It’s time to begin teaching English in Japan, whether at a private language school, a private primary or secondary school, or a government school.

Interns have been placed in cities all across the world in the past! As a fast developing country, interactive whiteboards and digital tools are becoming more frequent in private language school classes. Public schools have larger class sizes and less technology than private schools, but they make up for it with high levels of student engagement.

Congratulations, you did it! Be sure  to congratulate yourself on your accomplishment. It’s time to choose whether you want to see more of Japan, travel, or teach (or both).

By renewing your contract, you may be able to extend your stay in Japan and teach for a longer period of time. As a confident and experienced TEFL teacher, your options are limitless.

Locations

Although there are positions available in both urban and suburban areas around the country, the majority of positions are in suburban communities. Applicants should express their preferred location, as teachers usually go through an interview process with a school or language centre that has locations throughout the country. Shortly before or during their training week, teachers are assigned a location. Smaller towns are typically used for placements.

I really enjoyed advancing my learning with TEFL. They provide fantastic courses suitable for whatever your needs maybe but I highly recommend the 180 Hour course especially! Would also like to thank all my tutors & of course Michelle Benson for the fantastic online classroom course! She really does make it very enjoyable & is a great tutor! I want to thank Laura Graham also for all the help during my studies. Great company & feedback was very fast! Delighted to have used an Irish business also! 😀

I had a great experience with TELF. The application process was smooth and straightforward, and the team was very helpful and responsive. I really appreciate the opportunity to work as an ESL teacher and the flexibility that TELF provides. Overall, a positive experience, and I would recommend TELF to teachers looking for online ESL teaching opportunities.

I recently completed the 30-Hour Teaching Business English Course, and I learned so many interesting and useful things about how to plan, prepare, and create effective lessons. The course provides lots of valuable PDFs, videos, and links that allow you to explore the topics in greater depth and continue learning even after completing the course.I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to expand their knowledge, develop their teaching skills, and strengthen their potential as a Business English teacher!I also completed their “Using Generative AI in TEFL” course, which was very useful, especially because they recommended many AI teaching apps and websites that I had never heard of before. And when it comes to AI, the rule is always the same: create a good, well-written prompt and then refine it as necessary!

Really good course that you can complete in your own time! I found it very manageable and my Tutor marked all work very quickly! Within 1 day! Also, feedback is really detailed so if you do have any corrections to make, it is clear where you need to look (modules etc.) To fix it.Would recommend TEFL Institute to anyone interested in doing a TEFL course :)

I’ve almost finished my 300-hour TEFL Diploma with this fantastic institution, and honestly, I’m much more impressed than I expected! The TEFL Institute of Ireland is one of those rare platforms that genuinely delivers what it promises. Everything is smooth ,well organised, and easy to follow — no scratching your head wondering what comes next. And the content is seriously incredible -super practical videos, PPTs, and teaching materials you can take straight into the classroom. On top of that, you get free access to job opportunities, webinars with graduates, and great support and guidance along the way. All in all ,you’re not just getting a certificate — you’re getting a real pathway into teaching and into the international job market. A special thank you to Laura , Elaine ,and Tara , who have been just amazing throughout — always quick to respond and genuinely helpful. So glad I chose the TEFL Institute of Ireland ! More than perfect! 100% recommend!!!

I had always that I knew it all as long as it had to do with English language but this course has exposed me to so many different things I never even knew existed. It’s really very interesting and I am loving it all the way.

War eine tolle Erfahrung, den 180 Stundenkurs TEFL Level 5 "durchzuackern". Die kleineren Aufbaukurse im Gesamtpaket runden das Ganze ab. Hat Spass gemacht!
