You have six months to do the course but you could also be qualified in a little as four weeks. We give you comprehensive 24/7 access to the course, and you’ll get support from the tutor whenever you need it.

We have done our best to keep your entry requirements to a minimum. You’ll need to have a C1 level of fluency in English, and access to a desktop computer to study the course materials. You’ll probably need a computer for your TEFL career anyway, so consider it a good investment.

Our TEFL courses are designed to be fully comprehensive and easy for you to work with. We aim to deliver an experience which is simple to grasp and easy to complete.

You’ll be given ten modules to work through during your course. They will be available in different formats to suit your needs – text, audio and visual aids help you to learn in the right way for you. You’ll learn things like how to structure a sentence, how to plan a lesson, and how to deliver content to your students as part of the course.

We strive to ensure you get a practical skill set which can be used anywhere, because we know how important that can be. Ultimately, it’s vital for us that you feel confident in your ability to teach no matter where you are or what you’re doing, whether this is working in a classroom setting or teaching one-to-one through tutoring.

As we’ve said, you can complete the course within as little as four weeks, but the six month study period is there for your convenience. We don’t want you to feel rushed or like you have to struggle to get things done on time. Plus, our team of tutors are always on hand to help you out so feel free to use them.

If you want to teach English in Newcastle then you’ll be pleased to know that this course offers you a lot of unique options in terms of how you can pursue that goal. Our course is designed to give you a certification which will hold you in good stead, and it’ll be just up to you to decide how you want to learn and what you think is most important.

Teaching in England can be a little tricky because the education system mandates a degree and PGCE, but you still have a lot of options available to you. Let’s take a look at them together:

Language Schools

Language schools exist in cities all across the world and they offer a lot for new teachers so it is worth taking a proper look at what they can do for you. The great thing about language schools is that it isn’t state-run education – the typical class is full of adults who are trying to improve their education and gain fluency in a language. You can teach here without a degree, and you’ll be working in the evenings and on the weekends.

Business English is key for something like this because it’s a hotly desired language to learn and a little more complex than normal English. If you can teach it, then you’ll have a lot of job opportunities. The only thing to keep in mind is that you won’t be able to get full-time hours in most cases – the best most places can offer is just 30 hours a week and the pay isn’t always great.

Tutoring

Running your own tutoring business is another option if you want to work in the UK but it is a lot of information to digest at once and can sometimes be a lot to get your head around.

The bottom line is that you’ll be teaching English as a self-employed freelancer. You’ll be running a business and so you’re responsible for setting everything up correctly and getting it done in the right way. You’ll be relying on the recommendations of students to bring in business and you’ll also be at the behest of the UK government – HMRC makes all self-employed folks submit a tax return at the end of each business year which will result in a tax bill. You’ll need to budget for this and put aside money each month to avoid bankruptcy, but it can be worth doing.

A pretty sensible option for people who want to boost their TEFL skillet and bypass some of the restrictions inherent to the UK. You can teach English online and educate people around the world, and all you need is a bit of time and a good internet connection.

You should ask your employer before you start down this route if it might be a conflict of interest to work online. You’ll need to record your earnings and in a lot of ways it’ll be like a self-employed business again. However, this is a good way to earn money, pick up experience and interact with people from all walks of life.

We do stress that you’ll need a reliable internet connection and that you may need a degree in some situations. It depends entirely on how you teach and where you go. The internet is a highly diverse place and there are incredible opportunities available within it but this is tempered by what you can do and your ability.

If you want to be able to teach in the UK and you’re coming from another part of the world then you’ll need to go through the visa process to make it happen. Naturally this can take time and be a little complicated but it is worth figuring out. The application process is something you’ll need to put a lot of time and care into to ensure that you are approved for a visa.

Broadly speaking, as long as you can evidence you’re coming to work and you have a clean criminal record there’s a good chance you can be accepted.

With regards to individual jobs within the UK you’ll need to take a look at what’s required. Language schools don’t usually take a degree as part of the process which helps, and while you don’t need a degree for the sake of tutoring as a business, it will help your credibility a lot if you can show off qualifications as part of your marketing.

We definitely recommend taking the time to fine-tune your CV once you’ve managed to get your TEFL qualification. It’s important to show off what you can now do in the best way possible and demonstrate that you can offer a lot to a business or a prospective client.

Manchester

As one of the northernmost cities in the UK of a bigger size, Manchester offers a lot and can be a highly successful place to work and live. There is a diverse population so it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to secure work, but your best bet will be to look at language schools first to secure a foothold in the area and build up a reputation from there.

London

As both the culture and population capital of the UK, London is a rich hub of activity which offers a lot of unique opportunities for people and it’s worth taking a look at all of the ways it can offer you a life and a new career. The thing about London is that the average cost of living is higher than the rest of the UK, but the wages are also increased to match so the quality of life is about the same.

Nottingham

Another good place to live and work is Nottingham. As an area known for many famous historical tales, Nottingham has a rich history which many find highly appealing. You would be wise to explore everything on offer here to see what’s best for you.

The salary in the UK is massively dependent on what you choose to do with yourself and how that can affect your earning power. It’s worth noting that the UK is an expensive place to live these days but it is possible to build a life here.

Your average income will be somewhere between £1100 to £1500. If you want to earn more then you need to try and build a career that does this for you.

A basic guide to living costs:

  • One bedroom apartment in the city centre – £830 per month.
  • Utilities – £250 per month
  • Mobile phone – £20 per month
  • Internet connection – £30 per month
  • A monthly pass for local transport – £50 per month
  • Milk, 1 L – £1.30 per month
  • Loaf of bread – £1.20 per month.

These figures are an estimate and can be subject to change, influenced by the economic health of the country.
